They're Stealing Yard Signs In Des Moines, WA.

Posted by: Michael S. Kerr | 10/12/2008 2:19 PM

I've had two sets of yard signs stolen from my front yard in the past week. Last night our Doberman (he's not so tough) starts barking, so I look out the window and see a car stopped in the middle of the street. A guy was getting back in the car and then he drives away. Then I noticed my McCain/Palin and Dino Rossi signs were missing, again.

Here's the thing, we live on a fairly quiet street and you can't really see the signs at night. Obviously someone saw the signs during the day and came back for them after dark. The McCain signs are hard to come by in this state. The campaign is not exactly pouring resources into Washington.

So, I've decided to employ a counter offensive. Today marks the launch of "operation axle grease." The campaign signs are nailed to wooden stakes and those stakes, at least the ones in my yard, are now heavily caked with axle grease. If the thief returns, by the time he gets back in his car he will likely have the stuff on his clothes, his door handle, then the steering wheel, the Birkenstocks, and so on.

Who steals campaign signs? The car I saw was a newer model. These were not kids. The liberals and their tactics never cease to amaze me. I wonder how his new leather interior will look by the time he gets home? I will provide further reports regarding the success of the mission.

My McCain sign was stolen last night. I live out in the boonies in NE Ohio, and just like you, my sign really couldn't be easily seen after dark - no street lights or anything around here. I assume someone came back after dark to steal a sign they'd seen earlier. The odd thing is that there are a bunch of McCain signs around here, and other nearby signs are still up.

I read on a blog some woman rubbed poison ivy all over her signs that kept being stolen. I might try that. Someone else suggested razor wire around the edges... Also we have a camera, one of those you mount in a tree, used by hunters to take pictures of deer, tripped by infrared or some such. We'll get pictures of whomever it is, hopefully including their license plate, and have some fun messing with them for a while thereafter. If I can identify the thief I'll even try pressing charges, or public humiliation, or whatever else I can get away with.

My McCain and Rossi signs were stolen, Friday night, and replaced with Obama and Gregoire. At first, I thought it was a funny joke played by one of my neighbors, only to find out that our neighor's signs were stolen, as well. (not replaced.)
I'm in Spokane, Wa.

John's suggestion seems a little radical, but also effective.

An Obama yard sign was stolen from our yard. It doesn`t just happen to you, no matter what you think you`re not that special.

Stupid Liberal, the overwhelming incidents of sign theft and vandalism occur with McCain signs. This is happening across the country. Typical. In your case, it's quite possible that your local garbage man identified the sign as trash.

I live in what used to be the most Republican County of Northern Illinois.
Today, in broad daylight EVERY McCain/Palin sign was stolen from houses on our block. Not one Obama sign was touched, only McCain/Palin signs,

My wife, daughter and Granddaughter were in Chicago for some dental work on my Granddaughter all day and they were fearful the entire time they were in Chicago because my Daughter has a McCain/Palin bumper sticker on her car and has read about cars being damaged if they have McCain stickers on them.

This is suppoested to be the party who cares about everyone? I guess that is only true so long as you are an Obama supporter.

In the over 40 year that I have been voting I have never had to fear displaying who I supported no matter what party they were from.
This is the first time where you actually have to fear displaying support for your candidate if it isn't Obama. I can't tell you how many people won't put up lawn signs or put bumper stickers on their cars. They absolutely won't wear a campaign button or shirt because they are so afraid of being attacked, having obscenitites hurld at them and being given the finger by Obama supporting motorists.
My Grandkids can't express their support for McCain in their High School or they will be shunned by every other student at the school. I have to pick them up in the back of the school because I have a McCain/Palin bumper sticker so they are not harrassed about my support for McCain. What is this teaching the children of today? This is more like Russia or China than the USA now.

Let's here it for the 'peace loving and tolerant' liberals. By any means necessary, hmm?
