Only DeVore Can Get the Tea Party Vote

By Ed Sheppard | 03/15/10

(Author's Note: I volunteer for Chuck DeVore) I am proud to call myself a Tea Partier. Like a lot of my fellow Americans and Californians, I am angry at politicians, Republicans and Democrats, who have been treating us like ATMs, leveraging our future to pay for un-American policies, and showing nothing but contempt for our Constitution. I want it to stop, my fellow Tea Partiers want it to stop, and of the 4 candidates (Republican and Democrat)... read more »

Where We're Going, We Don't Need Roads

By Ed Sheppard | 03/11/10

Or sidewalks. Or cars. Or any other major modern transportation innovation developed since the Model T. Because San Francisco city leaders have neglected maintaining our roads, we have the worst streets in the state. A little background on how this happened. San Francisco spends $6.6 billion a year. About $6.5 billion of that is either directly flushed down the tiolet or given to local... read more »

I Get to Set Mark Leno Straight

By Ed Sheppard | 03/05/10

Last night, San Francisco's District 3 Democratic Club held its endorsements meeting for the statewide propositions on the June Ballot. Some wires got crossed; I showed up thinking I would be speaking against the open primary measure, and State Senator Mark Leno would be speaking for it, while Mark Leno showed up thinking he would be speaking against the open primary measure, and I would be speaking for it. So Mark went... read more »

Newsom Actually Walks Streets, Changes Mind on How to Clean Them Up

By Ed Sheppard | 03/01/10

When most people think of the Haight neighborhood in San Francisco, they think of a laid back neighborhood, full of people with graying ponytails who are still stuck in the 1960s. A lot of people would be shocked to find out that the Haight has become a scary place to walk. You're more likely to run into a group of thugs with a pitbull, pushing people around than a burnt out old hippie. The problem with such groups... read more »

Now We Know What Berkeley WILL Fight For

By Ed Sheppard | 02/26/10

The Bay Area woke up this morning to the shocking news that 200 Berkeley students turned from protesters into rioters, smashing windows, setting trash cans on fire, occupying a building and clashing with police. That's right. People in Berkeley, who have "Kumbiyah" on infinite repeat on their iPods, finally found something worth fighting for. What could it be? Freedom? No Democracy? No Our country? No The Bill of Rights?... read more »

Jed York Addresses SF Republicans

By Ed Sheppard | 02/25/10

Braving the rain, on Tuesday night Republicans here in The City packed the Tipsy Pig to hear 49ers President and CEO Jed York speak about the future of the team. For the 5 people in America who know nothing about football (all live in San Francisco, btw) the Niners are in the process of moving to Santa Clara. The team wants to build a stadium by its training facility and Great America Park. Santa Clara voters will be considering... read more »

Another Sanctuary City Outrage

By Ed Sheppard | 02/24/10

In yet another outrage in San Francisco, a San Francisco judge just ruled that the city is not to blame for the triple homicide committed by illegal alien and gang member Edwin Ramos. Family members  sued San Francisco, arguing that since San Francisco had previously arrested Ramos and, instead of turning Ramos over to immigration authorities, sheilded him under the Sanctuary City policy, it was their fault Ramos was on... read more »

Campbell, DeVore and Fiorina Speak at the CYR Convention; DeVore Wins Straw Poll

By Ed Sheppard | 02/24/10

(Author's Note: I volunteer for Chuck DeVore. I am also a CYR Member, and recently elected to its board. These thoughts are my own, however.) In what very well could only be one of two times we could see this during the primaries, all 3 U.S. Senate Candidates attended (but not at the same time) the California Young Republican Convention in Santa Clara. Let's take a look at what each had to say. Tom Campbell Former Congressman Tom... read more »

This weekend, members of the California Young Republicans (CYR) and guests gathered in Santa Clara for the organization’s 2010 Annual Convention.  Most of the major statewide candidates, including Steve Poizner, Chuck DeVore, Carly Fiorina, and Tom Campbell were featured speakers and many others participated in the workshops and forums held on Saturday. On Sunday, delegates from across the state elected the new... read more »

They Taxed Away the Value of Her Education

By Ed Sheppard | 02/22/10

So here I am at my local bar and home away from home, the Red Jack Saloon. My plan tonight was to come to the Jack, decompress from this weekend's historic California Young Republican convention, order some Chinese food, maybe work on draft for a CYR recap to be posted tomorrow, and after USA hockey beat Canada 5-3, remind the Canadien guy at the bar that Canada sucks. But then I struck... read more »
