The Power of Humor: Posterior Observations from the Plains

By Paul Ibbetson | 10/09/09

Do you still have a sense of humor? Can you still brake into a good solid laugh when the opportunity arises? Conservatives and the Republican Party, the party by which conservative values are most often found, are at risk of losing one of the most compelling weapons in their arsenal, a decent sense of humor. Now don’t think for a moment that I am opposed to the righteous indignation, repulsion, and even anger, that has been... read more »

A Return To The Planet Of The Apes

By Paul Ibbetson | 10/02/09

“It’s a mad house, a mad house!” These were the words shouted from the lips of Charlton Heston in the 1968 movie release, Planet of the Apes. Heston, who played the character of astronaut George Taylor, found himself in a future Earth where apes ruled the land and humans, and their past culture, were considered evil taboo. Ah, science fiction, such a wondrous escape from reality, right? What happens when fiction and... read more »

What's Still The Matter With Thomas Frank?

By Paul Ibbetson | 09/25/09

Ah, Kansas, the home of hard working, god-fearing, regular average Americans. You would never know that if you read Thomas Frank’s bestselling book “What’s the Matter With Kansas?” Frank paints the picture of the plains state as a land of conservative morons who self abuse themselves by following evil Republicans, who use trickery to create a backlash effect to past liberal doctrines. As a Kansan who read... read more »

A Meeting With The Boss

By Paul Ibbetson | 09/17/09

Have you ever had to have one of those special sit-downs with the boss? You know, the kind where you have to sit in the big office with the blinds drawn to receive one of those “this is how it is” lectures - or the “better do it better next time” lessons of the work place. That is the kind of memory that even in retrospect quickens the pulse and starts that first light sheet of sweat on the palms. The reason that... read more »

The Calling of the Roll: Side Making and Side Taking for the Future of America

By Paul Ibbetson | 09/10/09

Whose side are you on? When it comes to what kind of America we will have in the future, that we will hand down to our children, the battle lines are being drawn, opposing sides are marshalling their forces and counting their numbers. The Common Thread: A Bird’s Eye View of the TEA Party Movement

By Paul Ibbetson | 09/04/09

The TEA Party movement, which started for most as a small grassroots effort by disenchanted Americans to voice their disapproval with the government, is now growing to epic proportions. The movement has transcended the bounds of simply being events that people have heard about in faraway places, to events happening in almost every town on any given day. In fact, for TEA Party goers, it’s no longer a case of trying to make a single... read more »

Recognizing The Scent of Lemons: Thoughts From The Free Market

By Paul Ibbetson | 08/27/09

Recently I did something I don’t do very often, I bought a new car. No, this is not a “cash for clunkers” story, but a brief look at the serious challenges that are faced by the free market in America from the Barack Obama administration. Now, buying a new car, whether it’s a brand spanking new car, or just a new to you car, involves a familiar procedure that we often refer to as the “dance,” or the... read more »

Want To Destroy Conservative Talk Radio? We Got A Czar For That

By Paul Ibbetson | 08/21/09

The Obama administration is truly the place where Czars are made daily. Name your problem, concern, wish, or desire, and somewhere, for better or worse, there is an Obama Czar with power, authority, and funds to address the problem. The question that seems to come up repeatedly is: why do we need Czars that mirror other department agency heads? For example, why do we need a terrorism Czar when we have a head of the department of Homeland... read more »
