BIOGRAPHY

A founding investor in Red County, as of early 2009 Chip Hanlon became its CEO after being approached by the other investors to take it over and put the site where they believed it should be: among the most elite and powerful political websites in existence. The substantial re-design of the site in March was the first step in this process.

Also currently the President of Delta Global Advisors and the founder of greenfaucet.com, Chip Hanlon is regularly featured in the national media for his global economic viewpoints, and he formerly served for 3 years as a contributing writer for Real Money, the subscription service from TheStreet.com.

Previously, Hanlon has served as the C.O.O. and Chief Domestic Strategist at Euro Pacific Capital, as the President of Unfunds, Inc., and as Vice President of Investments and Syndicate Manager with Sutro & Co. He started his career as a research assistant on the international desk at Oppenheimer in 1993 while completing his studies of political science at UCLA.

In addition, Mr. Hanlon is the past-Editor of the Unfundamentals Market Newsletter, a current member of American Mensa, a founding investor in Red County Magazine and was on the budget task force of Bill Simon, 2002 Republican candidate for governor in the state of California. He has carried NASD Series 3, 4, 7, 8, 24, 66, 86 & 87 licenses.

Is Barack Obama?

By Chip Hanlon | 11/20/09

Why don't our Republican leaders just occasionally show an ounce of courage, personality--something? "Is Barack Obama?" That's all one of them needed to say. Say to what? Tonight, Chris Matthews was asking his Republican guests, "Is Sarah Palin qualified to be President of the United States?" Senator Judd Gregg came up with some namby-pamby reply that sort of equaled 'yes,' but Matthews was having a particularly... read more »

Tomorrow's Senate Vote Will Determine Fate of Obamacare

By Chip Hanlon | 11/20/09

Tomorrow night's vote is being portrayed by Democrats as a small procedural one that will simply allow the Senate to debate its healthcare bill, but in fact, it is much more than that. Others have blogged about this based on an interesting note sent out yesterday by the Senate GOP caucus, but it is an important enough statistic that I wanted to share it here with our readers, too. Read this release from Senator Coburn's... read more »

China: on Bubbles and the New Meaning of 'Ghost Town'

By Chip Hanlon | 11/16/09

From the terrific Steve Saville in his latest note to subscribers comes a tremendous discussion of the Chinese economy, and it fits well with a week-old video I've been meaning to share here. In sum: while China is (rightly) blasting our ultra-loose monetary policy, it needs to be recalled that its economy remains quite dependent on our monetary inflation. Despite the long-term case to be made for China's future role as the world's... read more »

Why Gold Will Keep Rallying from Here

By Chip Hanlon | 11/15/09

Silver. What I mean is: as "poor man's gold," silver tends to rally last in precious metals rally. It's sort of like the penny stock of precious metals, and it will usually go parabolic and reliably help to mark the end of precious metals rallies. Today, gold is at a record but silver is still nearly $4 (20%) below its all-time high, meaning speculators are not yet running wild in this group. Indeed, I've heard plenty of smart... read more »

Fretting About Anh Joseph Cao a Waste of Time & Energy

By Chip Hanlon | 11/11/09

True, the Representative from Louisiana's 2nd District was the only Republican to vote "aye" on Pelosi Care. Yes, that makes him a tempting target for retribution by angry conservatives. And let me say clearly before going on: I detest his vote as much as the rest of you. In this case, however, there's no reason to spend much time worrying about Anh Joseph Cao. Essentially, he only represents this overwhelmingly Democrat... read more »

Carly Rushes Her Announcement

By Chip Hanlon | 11/04/09

This might be a first: unless my eyes deceive me, Carly Fiorina formally announced her Senate candidacy on the O.C. Register's editorial page this morning. The paper may have Chuck DeVore to thank for that development because it's clear Carly's rushing her announcement to take the news cycle away from last night's endorsement of DeVore by the GOP's brightest light in the Senate, Jim DeMint. Reportedly, what was supposed to... read more »
