Governor Perdue Recommends Ending Property Tax Relief

By Danny Garner | 01/22/09

I find it hard to fault the governor on this issue because of the fiscal problems facing the state. Our unemployment rate is now over 8% and the state is facing a $2 billion shortfall. At some point reality has to set in, but it is incumbent on our state legislator to convince the taxpayers that they are doing everything possible to make sure they are making cuts in goverment payrolls, just like the public sector is doing, and reducing or... read more »

The Deed Is Done

By Danny Garner | 01/20/09

The inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States should be complete by the time this post is published. I say should because so far if there is one thing Mr Obama has shown me is that he not punctional at all. Everything he does or attends he is late to and then often runs past time. There is a lot talk nowadays about folks on the right taking a more conciliatory tone in their political talk.This... read more »

NAACP Is On The March

By Danny Garner | 01/16/09

In the last couple of weeks the NAACP, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and that is the only context in which you can utter the phrase colored people, has been on the move striving hard to once again gain a presence in the national limelight. The organization has become a one note song, and that song is tying every issue they see into some how related to slavery.Just recently they lodged a protest against the Mobile... read more »

Cobb County Announces Budget Surplus

By Danny Garner | 01/14/09

Have I said how thankful I am that I live in a county that is governed by conservatives? Not just Republicans either, more then a few of the Democrats holding elected office here are also conservative.Yesterday Cobb Chairman Sam Olens announced that in spite of the tough economic times we are going through the county managed to post a surplus in it's budget. It isn't huge, $384,251, but it is a surplus. In the previous year we had almost a $3... read more »

Gov Perdue Proposes Tort Reform

By Danny Garner | 01/14/09

It is about time somebody did. All of these frivolous lawsuits have become a drain on the legal system, but they are of course enabled by the outrageous monetary awards that await the winner of some these modern day lottery contests. For those not familiar with the phrase "tort reform" it is simply the term used to describe an overhaul or change to legal proceedings whereby the loser pays. The idea behind it is that before the next lawsuit is... read more »

By Danny Garner | 01/13/09

Our local paper must be under new management. I know they got a new publisher yesterday and today when I went to the AJC (Atlanta Journal Constitution) web site I was met with a new appearance. I like it.   What I am really posting about though is they now have a section on politics that is easy to locate and actually has useful information for the people of Georgia.   This link is a great resource for the citizens of... read more »

Day One Georgia Legislature

By Danny Garner | 01/12/09

Today is the first day of the Georgia legislative session and priority #1 is figuring out to balance the state budget.   The state is facing a $2 billion shortfall, so cuts are coming. Where the cuts are made is what is going to be hotly contested. Most Republican lawmakers, they are the majority in Georgia, realize some sacred cows are going to have to be sacrificed. The Democrats on the other hand have made it clear that they are not... read more »

Breakfast With The Cobb County Democrats

By Danny Garner | 01/10/09

Or my visit to the island of misfit toys.Last week I went to the Cobb County GOP breakfast meeting and this Saturday it was the Democrats turn. I am fair and balanced that way.First impressions mean a lot, and my first impressions were not good. The meeting was held a cafeteria style restaurant, which will remain nameless for their protection, because the food was horrible. They had a buffet line set up, and judging by the temperature of the... read more »
