Banning Cigar Bars in Boston?

By Angela F. F. Davis | 12/13/08

What will this state think of next. With the war on drugs escalating, the number of children who are still not receiving vaccinations, and the binge drinking epidemic among teenagers, one would think the Boston Public Health Commission would find a better focus for their work. Now the City's Health Commission board voted to ban cigar bars in the city, but are not moving forward to implement until 2018.  Pending on your personality some see the... read more »

Taxation without Representation

By Angela F. F. Davis | 12/07/08

Massachusetts has fallen victim to taxation without representation.  Our one party system on Beacon Hill is a huge mistake.  To have a Governors Office, and most of Beacon Hill gone to the Dems, we've now got ourselves a toll hike that elected officials have turned a deaf ear to.How many listening tours have the politicians in East Boston done to ascertain the effects of mammoth toll hikes the Democratic administration is pushing... read more »

One Massachusetts GOP Woman's Xmas List

By Angela F. F. Davis | 11/29/08

Part of the joy of Christmas is watching the children write their letters to Santa, which they believe strongly holds the key to all their joys for an entire year.  So it needs to happen, it needs to be long, and Mommy better mail it right after Thanksgiving so Santa and the elves can get an early start.I have decided to add a few things to my Christmas wish list for this year that if Santa delivers, would put a lot of hope and joy back into... read more »

Sarah and the Triple-Standard for GOP Women

By Angela F. F. Davis | 11/11/08

I've long been fascinated by the nature of the inside track for women of the conservative party.  The GOP has always been considered to be dominated by white collared men, and we've reached a stalemate.Sarah has arrived and women got a triple standard that was used against us immediately.  There is a microcosm of GOP folks, some within the McCain campaign and some not, who would clearly ruin Sarah Palin's future in order to further their... read more »

What Change

By Angela F. F. Davis | 11/07/08

Rahm Emanuel. That he assumed the Chief of Staff position for Obama is discouraging.  This was Obama's first appointment, and it is anything but consistent with his message of change.  To appoint someone who is a Washington insider, who served Clinton as an Aide in the early nineties, who penned a left wing doctrine which Obama has used as a playbook for platform issues, and to know he is in charge of Obama's transition is... read more »

Will America Mirror Massachusetts?

By Angela F. F. Davis | 10/31/08

I am struck by the tenacity of the Obama camp.  They press on, asserting that the tax breaks will go to those making below $250K.....or I hear it ratcheted down a few notches in the last  48 hours, now they are sticking it to the $150K and above aggregate of individuals.  The threshold along with those numbers is moving south pretty rapidly as we move closer  toward November 4th.This rings familiar.  You see, if you lived here... read more »

Jumping the Gun

By Angela F. F. Davis | 10/25/08

Al QuedaBin LadenKim Jong IIMahmoud AhmedinejadAs you reflect on these names, do they conjure images of freedom seeking tolerant folks that would sit and talk about peace with their neighbors?  Have these people entered another nation lately for the sole purpose of running food, water, or medical supplies to the poor and suffering?  Have they displayed a genuine desire for peace and to co-exist with all nations that desire to be... read more »

The Metamorphosis of Colin Powell

By Angela F. F. Davis | 10/19/08

Colin Powell suggests it is time to "electrify the world" in his endorsement of Obama this morning on "Meet the Press".  He suggests Obama has style, substance, and has presented a successful economic plan.Particularly odd words.  While listening to Powell's oratory this morning, many of us concurrently find ourselves struggling to locate the facts supporting his conclusion. Was Powell grasping at straws here?  Or gasping for... read more »

WHAM!

By Angela F. F. Davis | 10/10/08

Here it goes, the poll numbers shift. How is it that so many women who have been running the kids from soccer field to school, to the market, who were so engaged and excited about the Palin nomination now shifted allegiance to the Acorn Presidential Candidate?  How is that?  In terms of functionality it is clear that women ages 30-55 years of age are moving these numbers away from McCain's favor and looking to his opponent. ... read more »
