BIOGRAPHY

For the last 20 years involved in home building, real estate and mortgage finance. Grew up in Indianapolis and moved to Northwest Indiana 10 years ago. Married and proud father of four great kids. In 1999 got my first taste of politics in the City of Valparaiso mayoral election, we lost to a 5 term Democrat incumbent. During the next four years though the conservatives in our area really began a major re-tooling culminating in 2003 with Mayor Jon Costas being elected over that same incumbent in a landslide, delivering the entire city council in his coat-tails. I was privileged to chair that campaign. Over the next couple years of course we then were able to work closely with new Governor Mitch Daniels and dozens of county and state races. Currently I maintain several consulting contracts with small businesses, focusing on strategic planning and business development, as well as remaining very involved in the mortgage business. Blogging started as a hobby four years ago, with a friend asking if I would post my thoughts each day on local news. Our local media is dominated by two newspapers and opposing views were difficult to find. Today I am editing roughly 20 sites, active on social networks focused on politics and real estate, as well as more than busy with my family.

#nwindiana goes as Gary Indiana goes

By Steve Dalton | 03/09/09

What's the solution to Gary Indiana? Doug Ross from the Times Newspaper is engaging readers on their ideas for solutions to the problem that is Gary Indiana. All of us in NW Indiana need to be not only concerned about Gary but interested in a solution, albeit a very long term one. What are your thoughts? What should be done about Gary, to help Gary? Should the state step in and take over the City?Should Miller be allowed to de-annex?Should... read more »

#Indiana Politicians joining twitter

By Steve Dalton | 02/17/09

During the last campaign cycle Indiana politicians were seen to be using a little bit of social media, a blog here and there, and I think a few of them even played around with twitter. Over the last month I've noticed that a few more have migrated to twitter, so I went on a hunt this morning for twitter profiles for politicians. If you have more that I've missed, please submit in comments and I'll update.Governor Mitch DanielsLt. Governor... read more »

By Steve Dalton | 02/07/09

Israel alone with Obama Administration? Will Israel be the last nation willing to confront terror in the mid east? Atlas Shrugs recounts some of the hour long exchange between former UN Ambassador John Bolton and the Jerusalem Post this week. Operation Cast Lead was timed to end immediately before US President Barack Obama's inauguration. Since then, rockets have continued to be fired on Israel from Gaza, with limited retaliation, and... read more »

#TCOT Indiana Power Rankings

By Steve Dalton | 01/11/09

#TCOT Howey Power 50 ridiculed I'll be the first to admit I was a bit ticked when I tried to read the ranking and found that I needed a subscription, just seemed "old world" paradigm to me.  I've tried to interact with Howey a couple times, but he seems to favor a few of you guys in Indy over hyper local reporting from the Region.  When we posted a series of three articles on the Gary Distressed Unit Board filing, with a writer in... read more »
