BIOGRAPHY

Michael Swartz recently faced a choice in his life: stay in the architectural field and relocate, or change career paths in the place he's come to call home. Needless to say, Wicomico County won and despite the odds against securing wealth presented by unfriendly governments in both Annapolis and Washington, D.C. he's giving the business world a chance.

When he's not trying to make a buck, Michael can be found writing on his home website or pursuing his interest in politics. Michael has served on the local Republican Central Committee in each of his previous three home counties (two in Ohio and here in Wicomico County where he currently serves) and the Wicomico County Republican Club, where he serves as an officer and writes a monthly update for both his home site and Red County Wicomico readers. In either case, he stands against the disastrous policies being enacted against our county's will in both nearby capitals.

If Michael isn't practicing politics, working, or writing, he enjoys bowling, golfing, and summer evenings watching his adopted hometown team, the Delmarva Shorebirds.

Another viewpoint (or two)

By Michael Swartz | 08/12/09

I got a update on yesterday evening's townhall meeting in Towson with Senator Ben Cardin from Lisa Fitzhugh, a Facebook friend and friend of monoblogue. I'll start with her thoughts and close tonight with my observations about an upcoming event at Salisbury University. Lisa notes: I got in to the Cardin town hall and witnessed. I saw people I know on the pro-Obama healthcare plan go to the head of the line and waltz right into seats. The... read more »

The Astroturf is greener on the other side

By Michael Swartz | 08/09/09

Well, I found out one thing yesterday - Michelle Malkin is on some pretty interesting e-mail lists too. She wrote about a missive she received from Moveon.org. After the e-mail piece shrilly blared "...in Maryland, protesters hung a Democratic congressman in effigy to oppose health-care reform" (you mean like I show here?) they got to the (literal) money paragraphs: We’ve got a plan to fight back against these radical... read more »

The noose and the damage done

By Michael Swartz | 07/30/09

It's apparent to me that my coverage of the Kratovil protest (and the health care debate in general) on Monday struck a raw nerve with a lot of people as I continue to moderate comments about it a day and a half later. Those who already have their axe to grind with thinking Americans like me who posit the government need not expand their sphere of influence any farther into the realm of health care - or as I believe should... read more »

Widespread panic (about our freedom)

By Michael Swartz | 07/28/09

Yesterday in Salisbury a band of about 30 protestors braved the humidity and threat of rain to send a message to Congressman Frank Kratovil - keep Obamacare and the government out of our lives! Let me say straight away that I wouldn't have recommended the noose and effigy of Frank Kratovil. The "no Kratovil in 2010" (as in the first photo below) would have been effective enough. And it's not like the signs weren't quite creative,... read more »

Health care shot over the bow

By Michael Swartz | 07/27/09

We're still over a year from the primary, but issues and the opportunity to make points while building name recognition wait for no one. One recent example is U.S. Senate candidate Eric Wargotz opining on the pace of heath care reform. From his press release: Dr. Eric Wargotz, a physician and candidate for U.S. Senate (R - Maryland), applauds leaders on Capitol Hill who decided to slow down on health care reform to get it right. “As a... read more »

The anti-Pelura push, continued

By Michael Swartz | 07/20/09

My plan today was to dissect Frank Kratovil's recent response to me on his "cap and tax" vote in Congress a couple weeks back, but instead I bring you this. At the moment, Jim Pelura remains as the Chair of the Maryland Republican Party despite having a 20-10 "no confidence" vote against him Saturday. What's noteworthy about that vote, however, is that the counties (including Wicomico) provided all ten of his supporting... read more »

Has the stimulus done its job?

By Michael Swartz | 07/14/09

I thought about this when I saw a sign along U.S. 13 a couple weeks back: What struck me as odd is that the particular repaving job lasted, oh, maybe 2 weeks. I'll grant there's other work being done along that highway in Maryland but I don't know if the jobs are connected. Regardless, knowing the amount of time it actually takes to get these jobs underway I'm under the impression that the project would have been done anyway regardless of... read more »

The anti-Pelura push

By Michael Swartz | 07/12/09

By now most who follow Maryland politics know that there's a push to have state Republican Party chairman Dr. James Pelura resign his office due to questionable personnel moves. If they haven't found that out then they must not read the state's major newspapers, which have gleefully reported the news in their print editions or blogs. While it may not have been on the scale of the "Saturday Night Massacre", the firing of... read more »

Salisbury 4th of July TEA Party

By Michael Swartz | 07/06/09

While I have a pictorial post on my home website, monoblogue, I thought it may work out better on Red County to skip the pictures since the transition often omits my captioning text. So this post is more on my thoughts a couple days removed from the proceedings. The attendance for our party wasn't as large as it was in April, but I would argue that's due to two reasons. The obvious answer is having a TEA Party on a national... read more »
