BIOGRAPHY

Michele's motto is "William Barret Travis was 26 when he died defending the Alamo.  What have you done lately?"  In living that out, she has made an effort to make a difference in her social, spiritual, and home life in addition to her political life.

From 2005 to 2007, Michele served as Senior Vice Chairman of the Young Conservatives of Texas, a statewide conservative organization for citizens aged 18-35.  In 2006, she helped lead the University of North Texas YCT chapter to Chapter of the Year for the second year in a row, and received the Coby Pieper Award for Conservative Dedication.  Michele was twice named Student of the Month with the conservative women's organization Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute.  She took the experience she gained with legislative issues and media relations to her work for Americans for Prosperity, where she served a year and a half as Texas grassroots coordinator. She currently works as an independent political consultant in addition to serving as executive director for the Travis County Republican Party.

Michele has been blogging about Travis County and Texas politics since 2006, and she's been involved in politics since campaigning for Texas statewide candidates in 1998. She's a conservative Christian who believes that fiscal responsibility is a major family value.  She and her husband Randy live in north Austin with their dog, Waylon.

9/11 Tribute: Luis Jimenez

By Michele Samuelson | 09/11/09

Luis Jimenez worked for Marsh & McLellan in the World Trade Center. He was 25 on Sept. 11, 2001, and his life was cut short by the terrorist attacks on that horrible day. Luis graduated from Queens College University in 1998. He was an accountant for MMC for 2 years. His family and close friends called him by his nickname, Luigi. He was a baseball fan (loved the Mets). In September of 2001, he was planning to be married. By all... read more »

New Texas traffic laws go into effect Tues., Sept. 1

By Michele Samuelson | 08/25/09

Drivers beware! A bunch of new laws that will directly affect you go into effect in the state of Texas next Tuesday. A list of new traffic laws, and some others, can be found here. Some examples: HB 55 makes it illegal to use a wireless communication device in a school zone unless the vehicle is stopped or a hands-free device is used. Cities or counties wanting to enforce this law must post a sign at the beginning of each school zone to... read more »

Denton County Astroturf: Officials still clamoring for transportation taxes

By Michele Samuelson | 08/20/09

I really wish government officials would be intellectually honest with constituents and call tax increases by their name. We've got Obama and his ilk referring to their government-option health care initiative as a "public" option, and tax-and-spenders in the Legislature, cities, and counties in Texas clamoring for a "local" option tax increase. The "local" option is dead, thank goodness - or is... read more »

Dems: Photo ID for redress of grievances, but not to vote!

By Michele Samuelson | 08/12/09

Oh, this is rich. TheHill.com is reporting that Texas Congressman Gene Green is going to require photo identification for anyone who wants to attend his town hall meetings. Has anyone told Congressman Green that his constituents don't need photo i.d. to vote for him? That obvious piece of tragic irony aside, who does Congressman Green think will show up at his town hall, exactly? What good will it do to have people show identification -... read more »

Travis County Republican Chairman speaks out on health care, Doggett, and more

By Michele Samuelson | 08/08/09

I have to give due credit to the Statesman for publishing a balancing opinion. I know, I know - you're as shocked as I am! Travis County Republican Party chairman Dr. Rosemary Edwards speaks out on health care, the Doggett events, and insurance on today's Statesman editorial page.   From the column:   Obama's health care reform is just the next verse in the same song, the liberal song of dependency on government for everything... read more »

Do you hear us, Congressman Doggett?

By Michele Samuelson | 08/02/09

I wasn't fortunate enough to be in town for this, but grassroots activists turned out en masse to tell Congressman Lloyd Doggett exactly how they feel about the Obamacare bill. Check this out:     read more »
