Now That Ted Kennedy Won't Be Sailing There Any Longer.....
By Michael Costello | 01/17/09
A Cape Cod wind farm is okay.A plan to build a $1.2 billion, privately run wind farm off the Cape Cod shore cleared a major hurdle yesterday when the Interior Department deemed it environmentally safe. Ted Kennedy has vigorously opposed construction of this wind farm, famously arguing, "But, don't you understand - that's where I sail.". The project, which has been the subject of a multimillion-dollar lobbying campaign, could present Obama with... read more »

Pay for Play, Clinton Style
By Michael Costello | 01/13/09
It seems that Hillary Clinton has been auctioning off her own senate seat. Secretary of State appointee Hillary Rodham Clinton intervened at least six times in government issues directly affecting companies and others that later contributed to her husband's foundation, an Associated Press review of her official correspondence found. The overlap of names on former President Bill Clinton's foundation donor list and business interests whose... read more »

Dead Tree Dinosaur Death Watch
By Michael Costello | 01/09/09
The Seattle PI might have as few as 60 days to live. Hearst Corp. put Seattle's oldest newspaper, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, up for sale on Friday and said that if it can't find a buyer in the next 60 days the paper would likely close or continue to exist only online. If it does become an Internet-only operation, the P-I, as the paper is known locally, would have a "greatly reduced staff," Hearst said in a statement. Hearst is a major media... read more »

Laughing At The Hypocrites and Mediocrities Who Rule Us
By Michael Costello | 01/09/09
I inaugurate each new year with a column recognizing the most idiotic utterances from the politicians and media types who have anointed themselves our superiors. In truth I could write a Kozmo Awards column every week with all the barnyard effluvia that typically finds its way into the news. It requires a great deal of discipline to limit myself to just two such columns per year as we wave goodbye to the old year and greet the new. The year just... read more »

Christine Gregoire To Replace Bill Richardson?
By Michael Costello | 01/05/09
It seems that Washington governor Christine Gregoire's whereabouts are unknown. OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Gov. Chris Gregoire is out of state, but her office won't say where she is. Gregoire was set to be the keynote speaker Tuesday at a pre-legislative session forum sponsored by The Associated Press, but her office canceled Monday afternoon. Legislative director Marty Brown will stand in for Gregoire at the forum. Spokesman Pearse Edwards said that... read more »

Can We Take The Polar Bear Off The Endangered Species List?
By Michael Costello | 01/05/09
At the close of year just past, there was just as much global sea ice as there was three decades ago.Ice levels had been tracking lower throughout much of 2008, but rapidly recovered in the last quarter. In fact, the rate of increase from September onward is the fastest rate of change on record, either upwards or downwards. The data is being reported by the University of Illinois's Arctic Climate Research Center, and is derived from satellite... read more »

And Yet More Pay For Play Taints Obama
By Michael Costello | 01/04/09
It seems that Hillary Clinton is into the pay for play thing too. Unfortunately, my source is not a terribly reliable source (ie: The New York Times). I heard that it was on Fox News as well, so there's a good chance that it's true. An upstate New York developer donated $100,000 to former President Bill Clinton's foundation in November 2004, around the same time that Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton helped secure millions of dollars in federal... read more »

More Pay For Play Taints Obama
By Michael Costello | 01/04/09
If this kind of thing continues, one might start to think that the culture of corruption has its home in the Democratic Party. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson on Sunday announced that he was withdrawing his nomination to be President-elect Barack Obama's commerce secretary amid a grand jury investigation into how some of his political donors won a lucrative state contract.Richardson's withdrawal was the first disruption of Obama's Cabinet... read more »

Seattle Beginning to Look Like A Third World Country
By Michael Costello | 12/30/08
It's been a long time since Seattle has picked up the garbage.Update: Why insult the Third World? Jim Conchie of South Seattle said his garbage hadn't been picked up since two weeks before Christmas. He said Mayor Greg Nickels should stop pushing ambitious global climate initiatives and concentrate on core city services, such as garbage pickup and snow removal."It's time for the mayor to give up all his high-flying fantasies and get back to... read more »

Kwanzaa's Last Gasp
By Michael Costello | 12/30/08
It's in Seattle of course. As Anne Coulter points out, Kwazaa is more popular with rich, white liberals than mainstream African Americans. Kwanzaa was invented in 1966 by a black radical FBI stooge, Ron Karenga, aka Dr. Maulana Karenga. Karenga was a founder of United Slaves, a violent nationalist rival to the Black Panthers and a dupe of the FBI......Kwanzaa itself is a nutty blend of schmaltzy '60s rhetoric, black racism and Marxism. Indeed,... read more »
