AD71 Watch: Could This Seat Come Open in 2010?

By Chris Emami | 11/06/09

In August, I blogged here about the political dominoes that would come from Riverside County Supervisor Roy Wilson's resignation (and untimely death, shortly thereafter).  As expected, the Governor appointed Senator John J. Benoit (R-37) to the seat.  Why does this matter to Orange County?  Well, Assemblyman Jeff Miller is the front-runner to replace Benoit, thereby opening an Assembly seat that is mostly in Orange... read more »

Lt Gov Watch: New Candidate Emerging for Appointment

By Chris Emami | 11/05/09

This morning, Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi was sworn in as a member of the US House of Representatives, thereby leaving the post of Lieutenant Governor vacant.  I previously blogged about that here, but most people probably missed since the Mike Duvall scandal buried that post a short time later. However, since that post, I've heard from multiple sources in Sacramento that there's a buzz going around... read more »

Election Updates

By Chris Emami | 11/03/09

For tonights election the first results are in with Virginia going to the Republicans. Winning the seats of Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General may not secure any votes in either house but it is still a blow to the Democrats. This can be construed as a referendum on the current administration as Obama won Virginia in 2008. Virginia results: Statewide Results - Governor 55% of Precints Reporting: 1,396 of 2,516 (D)... read more »

Governor's Race Watch: Newsom Drops Out, Brown Unopposed in Dem Primary

By Chris Emami | 10/30/09

According to Capitol Weekly's report and the Sacramento Bee's Capitol Alert report, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has dropped out of the race for Governor.  This leaves Attorney General Jerry Brown unopposed for the Democratic nomination for Governor (although Brown has not technically entered the race, so officially, there are no Democratic candidates for Governor, but it's assumed Brown's entrance is a formality). This... read more »

AD72 Special Election Watch: CRA Does Not Endorse

By Chris Emami | 10/13/09

After three rounds of voting, the CRA will not be endorsing anyone in the race to win the 72nd Assembly District, as no one got 2/3 in the 3 rounds of balloting. With 18 delegates, 12 were necessary to gain the CRA endorsement.  4 CRA units were represented: Anaheim, Fullerton, Orange-Villa Park, and Yorba Ranch. Each unit had 5 delegates, so there were 2 delegates who did not make it to the endorsement... read more »

'Capitalism': This Time Moore Is Less

By Chris Emami | 10/11/09

Brian Calle over at the OC Register asked me to cross post his article onto Red County. I think it is a very well thought out piece that points out just a few of the flaws with Michael Moore's new movie. Here is the article:   'Capitalism': This time, Moore is less In his new movie, Michael Moore mistakes corporate fraud and government corruption – which are statist, not capitalist, tendencies – for capitalism. ... read more »
