BIOGRAPHY

I first started paying attention to politics during the Iranian revolution in 1979 (wow---things sure haven't changed much in 30 years)! I was too young to vote for Reagan in 1980 (by one year) but was a proud military officer by his second term in office, getting my commission in the Air Force in 1985. I resigned my commission in 1990 to start a family and moved from Okinawa, Japan to the Pacific Northwest in 1993.

I am a freelance writer and have written a weekly political column for the Federal Way Mirror for several years. I am active on local politics and worked on Dino Rossi's gubernatorial campaign, organizing the veterans' vote and advising the staff on veterans' issues.

During the past legislative session I worked for WashingtonVotes.org, analyzing and tracking legislation and I am currently doing contract work for the Washington Policy Center.

Report on Health Care Town Hall: Rep. Adam Smith Heard You!!

By Angie Vogt | 07/27/09

Yes, I am certain he heard us, based on the reports I've managed to find. The question still remains: is he a big government team player and just biding his time for the next opportunity, or does he really get it? I think we all know the answer to that. It'a always just a matter of time before liberals hatch their next plan. For now, it appears Smith has read the tea leaves and knows that his constituents are hot and bothered by the monstrosity,... read more »

Governor Gregoire Loses Sleep Over 2011 Budget

By Angie Vogt | 07/24/09

Stateline.org attended the National Governor's Association meeting in Biloxi, Ms. from July 17-20 and asked the Governors what their major concerns were for their states' struggling economies in the coming year. Stateline captured the above picture which unfortunately demonstrates the Governor's claim to be true...."2011....that's what keeps me awake at night." To read the Gregoire's complete statement and a few other Governors'... read more »

The topic will be health care. I spoke with an assistant of... read more »

Reichert in Damage Control Mode?

By Angie Vogt | 07/14/09

Representatives Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Dave Reichert convened a telephone conference yesterday to discuss GOP strategy on the impending healthcare disaster (legislation) that the Democrats are cooking up. I tuned in and listened to their opening remarks which were light on substance, but heavy on pro-conservative rhetoric. You know the usual "we can't let government grow any bigger," "this costs too much," and the... read more »

Red County Manifesto?

By Angie Vogt | 07/06/09

A friend just sent me this quote. I'm sure I've read it before, but it is one that is worth memorizing and repeating until the public sees the lunacy of liberal re-distribution schemes. You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first... read more »

Cap-and-Trade was Passed with Bait-and-Switch Tactics

By Angie Vogt | 07/02/09

After the frenzy, the real details of this monstrosity and how it passed are surfacing. The recent Cap-and-Trade legislation that was passed in Congress is a first class demonstration of why we need term limits. Regardless of party affiliation, our Congress does not work for our interests, but they work for the myriad interest groups that finance their re-election campaigns. The media has trumped this legislation in such a way that most... read more »

The "Specter" of Reichert: The Fallout Begins

By Angie Vogt | 06/28/09

Might Congressman Reichert be putting into action the same strategy as Arlen Specter? Not too long ago we were dismayed by Arlen Specter's change of political parties for what was clearly a desperate act of political survival. Specter was barely distinguishable from a Democrat anyway, and the GOP had been tolerating his insincerity for a long time. They finally got organized enough and put up a good primary opponent against Specter,... read more »

Grass Roots Call to Action: 'It starts with our schools'

By Angie Vogt | 06/26/09

Jay Johnson is the Precinct Committiee Officer (PCO) for the 26th Legislative District (Gig Harbor and other parts of Pierce County). He recently submitted this grass roots call to action, and explains that our lack of power in all things political started a long time ago. The key to getting that power back is in your own neighborhood. It starts with the school board! Republican’s Gave Up 50 Years Ago As I reflect back on my life and... read more »
