BIOGRAPHY

I first started paying attention to politics during the Iranian revolution in 1979 (wow---things sure haven't changed much in 30 years)! I was too young to vote for Reagan in 1980 (by one year) but was a proud military officer by his second term in office, getting my commission in the Air Force in 1985. I resigned my commission in 1990 to start a family and moved from Okinawa, Japan to the Pacific Northwest in 1993.

I am a freelance writer and have written a weekly political column for the Federal Way Mirror for several years. I am active on local politics and worked on Dino Rossi's gubernatorial campaign, organizing the veterans' vote and advising the staff on veterans' issues.

During the past legislative session I worked for WashingtonVotes.org, analyzing and tracking legislation and I am currently doing contract work for the Washington Policy Center.

Vogt Responds to the Seattle Times

By Angie Vogt | 10/12/09

I sent in the following column to the Times in response to this article, regarding the investigation into Dow Constantine's campaign and the PDC's dismissal of my complaint. I have not heard a response, so I assume they are ignoring it (it's been over 24 hours since I submitted this). Thank you for covering the issue of alleged campaign violations from the Dow Constantine campaign (re: "State to Investigate Constantine campaign,"... read more »

Update on PDC Complaint

By Angie Vogt | 10/06/09

I am way behind blogging on the happenings with my PDC complaint against the Dow Constatntine campaign. For background, see my article that appeared in the Federal Way Mirror or my first post with Red County, where the story first broke. I submitted my complaint on Monday, September 28th. Wednesday (he 30th) I called Phil Stutzman, the Director of Complaince to see if he had received my packet of information that came with the complaint. For... read more »

PDC Complaint Evidence

By Angie Vogt | 09/29/09

Below is a printed web page from Moxie Media listing Christian Sinderman as "Principal and Partner." Moxie Media has produced tens of thousands of dollars in attack ads against Constantine's opponents. Sinderman is the founder of Northwest Passage, the consulting firm working on Dow Constantine's campaign. Luckily this was printed this up before it was taken off the website. I also noticed that Moxie is listing its address as... read more »

King County Editor Files PDC Complaint Against Dow Constantine Campaign

By Angie Vogt | 09/28/09

At first when I started looking into rumors about Dow Constantine's campaign and alleged campaign finance violations, I was a bit intimidated. Campaign finance laws are complicated and not nearly as metro-cool as scandals involving sexual escapades with interns. Not to mention, the Seattle liberal political machine is very well oiled with lawyers and elitist urbanites that could easily out maneuver little ole me (a political junkie, housewife,... read more »

Rep. Adam Smith: How About an Afghani National Day of Service?

By Angie Vogt | 09/11/09

The Tacoma News Tribune is reporting that Representative Adam Smith has returned from a trip to Afghanistan and declared that the war there is "ground zero" for the fight against al Qaeda. Curiously, he maintains the position that we should just be there "to block al-Qaida from gaining a safe haven and [then] withdraw as soon as possible." He has so far not proposed a logical exit strategyto this rather tenuous... read more »

The Tangled Web Continues......

By Angie Vogt | 09/09/09

Just learned a little more to the story about the many pots of money and shell game going on behind Constantine's campaign, especially with regard to his staffer, Jason Bennett. Moxie Media is connected to Institute for a Democratic Future, the charm school for the likes of Derek Kilmer and Kevin Van De Wege. In fact, Jason Bennett is IDF’s Executive Director. Moxie does Kilmer’s mail. It's all far left stuff, smartly poised to feel... read more »

Dow's Tangled Web: How Many Campaign Violations Can You Find?

By Angie Vogt | 09/08/09

With local media under the strain of dwindling finances, we run the risk of allowing corrupt political operatives to act with hubris and wild abandon. At least it seems to be the case in Seattle, where the incestuous relationship between political consultants, politicians and special interest groups have gone unchallenged for so long....perhaps the local media just don't recognize suspicious connections anymore. Leafing through campaign finance... read more »

R-71: A Tale of Two Genders

By Angie Vogt | 09/03/09

Referendum 71 appears to have survived court challenges and will likely appear on the November ballot. R-71 is an attempt to repeal a law that has come to be known as the “everything but marriage” bill that grants same-sex couples the same legal recognition of marriage, without actually calling it marriage. Let me just start by appealing to your higher angels of intuition first and then your powers of reason and logic. Emotion... read more »

Remind Them: They Are the Servants, Not the Master

By Angie Vogt | 08/29/09

“Everyone wants to live at the expense of the state. They forget the state wants to live at the expense of everyone.” ~Frederic Bastiat   Well, in case you haven’t heard, Americans are participating in the political process with gusto lately!  Representative Adam Smith’s town hall last Tuesday drew a crowd of 2500. Representative Brian Baird also drew a huge crowd, with one exchange between him and a U.S.... read more »
