BIOGRAPHY

I first started paying attention to politics during the Iranian revolution in 1979 (wow---things sure haven't changed much in 30 years)! I was too young to vote for Reagan in 1980 (by one year) but was a proud military officer by his second term in office, getting my commission in the Air Force in 1985. I resigned my commission in 1990 to start a family and moved from Okinawa, Japan to the Pacific Northwest in 1993.

I am a freelance writer and have written a weekly political column for the Federal Way Mirror for several years. I am active on local politics and worked on Dino Rossi's gubernatorial campaign, organizing the veterans' vote and advising the staff on veterans' issues.

During the past legislative session I worked for WashingtonVotes.org, analyzing and tracking legislation and I am currently doing contract work for the Washington Policy Center.

Local Media Mea Culpa: 'regretting we didn't cover' Puyallup Tea Party

By Angie Vogt | 11/03/09

The Tea Party Express rolled into the Puyallup Fairgrounds last Friday (October 30th) and lots of people showed up to welcome it--nearly 5,000. Did the local media cover it? The only coverage on the web that I've found is this clip, probably taken from someone's cell phone. ntil I found this mea culpa from the Tacoma News Tribune reporter John Henrikson that includes an even better videoclip.     read more »

Demand Full Disclosure from the Seattle Times

By Angie Vogt | 10/29/09

If you want evidence of how much power the progressive political network has over the local news media, just look once again how journalists doing their job suddenly seem to get weak at the knees when they discover something fishy about a left-of-center candidate. (See Bryan Myrick's post here). It was Keith Ervin of the Seattle Times who first made reference to the problem of Dow Constantine's treasurer Jason Bennett wearing one too many hats... read more »

Afghanistan: Could it Be Obama's LBJ Moment?

By Angie Vogt | 10/29/09

While President Obama "dithers" about the War in Afghanistan, our troops are battling the bloodiest month since the War in Afghanistan began. The President has lead the country and the world through an arduous month of indecision about whether to grant General McChrystal's request for a troop surge to turn the tide against an emboldened Al Qaida resurgence. He is failing in his duty as Commander-in-Chief, a role that he is ill-equipped... read more »

California Coolin': Leave the "Cool Cars" Behind

By Angie Vogt | 10/29/09

From the same eco-geek class of folks that brought us ethanol (which uses more petroleum to produce than it attempts to replace) and the Energy Star Rating (which we now know is accurate approximately 60% of the time), comes the next big idea that is sure to save the planet: it's called metal oxide glaze. The California Air Resources Board (CARB), which predates the nation's own Environmental Protection Agency, has proposed a new set of mandates... read more »

I-1033: Good Stewardship Begins at Home

By Angie Vogt | 10/23/09

Tim Eyman's  initiatives have become legendary in our state. Liberals hate him. Conservatives love him. This time, though, the conversation about his latest intiative, I-1033 is nuanced by an economy that is stretched and burdened in ways we have never seen. It is important to note that the condition we find ourselves in is the result of the punch-drunk spending of the past six years. This one is difficult... read more »

Looking for More Reasons to Approve I-1033? Here's Two!

By Angie Vogt | 10/20/09

While most of the state's newspaper editorial boards are worried sick that I-1033 will impoverish our state and local governments, two newstories today should give every Washington voter good enough reason to approve the initiative. Exhibit A is this article from the Puget Sound Business Journal revealing the results of a new study from the Tax Foundation that names Washington State as having the nation's third highest local and state... read more »

Whitman's Choice: Public Funding

By Angie Vogt | 10/20/09

Check out this excellent interview with Meg Whitman, one of three Republicans vying to run for Governor in 2010. All three GOP candidates are pro-choice but Whitman has distinguished herself by supporting the public funding of abortion. Whitman, who supported Mitt Romney during the last Presidential primary, assures Jon Fleishman, writing for FlashReport, that she respects people with pro-life views. She respects the pro-life position, but then... read more »

Hillary's "Reset Button" Turns the Clock Back

By Angie Vogt | 10/15/09

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin appears to be doing a little dance around Hillary Clinton's table. It just feels like déjà vu all over again, with Putin’s KGB background rearing it’s ugly head, talk of missile defense systems in Eastern Europe, a nut case leader in Tehran and missives about nuclear disarmament. It feels like 1979. In the past month President Obama signed on to a UN resolution calling for... read more »

The Truth Hurts: Anti-Abortion Truck Delivers Image of Injustice

By Angie Vogt | 10/14/09

One of my favorite quotes is attributed to Harry Truman: "I don't give 'em hell. I tell them the truth and they think it's hell." I am gratified that KING 5 is telling the story behind the truck with graphic images that is touring Seattle on Wednesday (October 14). The huge display that will be at the University of Washington the next two days are from the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform. ***The images and video clips on... read more »

KING 5 Poll Tips Toward Hutchison in King County Exec Race

By Angie Vogt | 10/13/09

A KING-5 poll released this afternoon (Tuesday, October 13th), shows King County Executive candidate Susan Hutchison increasing her lead over Dow Constantine by another two points, with a 47%-42% tally. No reference was made in the report (by Seattle establishment media) of the possible impact of a state investigation into Dow Constantine's campaign finance violations. In fact don't expect many updates on the investigation at all, as that... read more »
