My Politics
Favorite President in History:
It is so hard to say who is my "favorite president." I like many of them for different reasons. George Washington was the most enigmatic, indispensable man we've had in office. He created the modern presidency. Abe Lincoln was incredibly complex man and so many myths have developed about him that his life is a must study. Teddy Roosevelt, while I am not a fan of many of his "progressive" ideas was such a dynamo of a man that it is impossible to hate the old rogue. Ronald Reagan brought this country back from the brink of disaster and reinvigorated a flagging nation. So, it's hard to say which is my "favorite" but let's say I love studying them all.
My Favorite Politician Today:
There are quite a few politicians that I admire immensely. Texas Governor Rick Perry, Illinois Congressman Peter Roskam, Senator Jim DeMint, Senator Tom Coburn, all are great, principled pols. Heck, even Newt Gingrich is a fascinating individual. Maybe I am too jaded to have a "favorite" though. Let's just say that I admire many of these people and wish to do my part to help keep them admirable!
Most memorable Political Event Attended:
One of my favorite events ever was the 2010 9/12 events in Washington D.C. that Freedomworks put on. But my most favorite political event is always the next one I'm headed to!
I don't really call myself a Republican. I prefer to consider myself a classical liberal in the mode of our American founders. I am quite libertarian on many issues, but I'd never identify with Libertarians because I think too many of them are libertine as opposed to "libertarian." But, usually I just settle for "conservative." For sure I am conservative before I am Republican.
Favorite political quote (said by whom)?
"The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government -- lest it come to dominate our lives and interests."
--Patrick Henry
NRSC or Senate Conservatives Fund?
I am reserving judgment on this one. But I sure am thrilling to Jim DeMint's successes and I urge him to keep going. I support his efforts.
Republican Party or Tea Party?
Republican Party or Tea Party is an impossible question to answer. After all, there is not Tea Party. There is a Tea Party movement, yes, but no party called the Tea Party. So, I am for both! They should and must coexist.
Cut taxes, cut spending or both?
As to taxes and spending, we most certainly need to cut both. But the best way to do that is to cut regulations, government programs (say hello to the end of the Dept. of Education!), and to get government out of our lives.
