Chula Vista Republicans United

By South Bayster | 04/15/08

Last night the Republican Party endorsed a host of Chula Vista candidates and measures, including: Greg Cox for Supervisor, Russ Hall for Chula Vista City Council, Scott Vinson for Chula Vista City Council, Jerry Rindone for County Board of Education, and NO on Measure E. The most interesting endorsement is that of local business owner Scott Vinson for City Council over the current councilman Steve Castaneda, who is currently on trial and some... read more »

The Trial of Councilman Castaneda Starts This Week

By South Bayster | 04/06/08

This week, Chula Vista Steve Castaneda will go to trial on more than a dozen perjury charges stemming from an invesigation into political corruption from the DA's office and a grand jury interview. I'm not writing to discuss the merits of the charges - I don't think I or anyone else really has the information to make any sort of educated judgement. Chula Vista Councilman Steve Castaneda: Labor Bosses Choice

By South Bayster | 04/02/08

Well I've got to say I find this amusing. Remember when our Chula Vista Councilman Steve Castaneda was a member of the local Republican Party? Remember when he was said to be backing the ABC's groups recent attempt to make sure Gaylord was not only union labor? Remember that Steve Castaneda?   The real Steve Castaneda is standing up now. Proud of the endorsement by the Labor Council. The truth is, for all the people who fell for him in... read more »

78th Assembly Race

By South Bayster | 03/16/08

There were a number of people here in Chula Vista who doubted Councilman John McCann could get a campaign for state office off the ground. I was among them, and I probably said it too often. Most of us didn't think Shirley had much of a chance her first go round, either. That is why I'm proud to say today that I was wrong, and over the last few weeks I put my money where my mouth is. John has worked hard over the past several months and... read more »

An Eye on SouthBay

By South Bayster | 03/13/08

I want to introduce myself. I'll admit to being a southbay 'insider' up front. My range is pretty much south San Diego, Chula Vista, National City, and Imperial Beach. There is quite a bit going on down here right now -- particularly in Chula Vista (which Ill cover in depth in my next post), where Mayor Cox and her allies are now in a make or break struggle against a wealthy property owner and an indicted councilman and his allies for control of... read more »
