Mayor Cox: Armed for Bear
By South Bayster | 10/07/08
I'm not the southbay reporter (ahem) but after the last few Voice of San Diego and Union Tribune articles on the goings on in Chula Vista I had to see for myself how the City Council meetings were. If you go to the City of Chula Vista website, you can actually watch them. Last night Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox came armed for bear - and she let loose on fellow Councilman Steve Castaneda. The impression I've always had of the Cox family... read more »

Waddie Side Are You On Waddie?
By South Bayster | 10/07/08
This just in... Former State Senator Waddie Deddeh was overheard saying that he met with Marty Block Tuesday and Block is worried about slipping polling numbers with Democrat voters. It seems John McCann has a decent portion of the Democrat vote... so much so the Block campaign is scrambling to lock down their own party's voters and they are thinking about issuing a press release will every elected Democrat, and calling in Juan... read more »

Pam's Silver Bullet?
By South Bayster | 10/07/08
Sounds like Chula Vista Council candidate Pam Bensousan may have a serious political problem. I'm not going to be the first to reveal it... but we are talking a serious problem here folks. It was talked about tonight at one of the debate events (oh man does anyone else think McCain got his hat handed to him?). I've been calling the race between Russ Hall and Pam a tie or leaner Russ in my last posts... but if what I've heard is true this might... read more »

Two Sunday Notes...
By South Bayster | 10/05/08
I count everything south of the 8 as my 'Southbay' reporting region. Something is going on in part of the 78th Assembly District that overlaps the San Diego City's 4th Council District. I got a picture over the email this morning that showed at least two dozen people getting ready to walk Saturday in this heavily Democratic area (of course I have no idea how to post it). On the way to visit a friend in that area Friday I actually had to stop the... read more »

Marty Block TV Ads
By South Bayster | 09/23/08
Imagine my surprise this morning when I turned on the tv and saw an ad for 78th Democrat Assembly candidate Marty Block on broadcast. Wow that's early. The ad is a bit, well, strange. It shows Block with a map of California and the Cayman Islands and making the argument that too many people or companies are hiding their money over there and that's why California is in trouble and that he'll close the loophole and that he doesn't support new... read more »

John Moot Unloads on Councilman Steve Castaneda
By South Bayster | 09/11/08
I was busy Wednesday and so didn't get to publish, but better late than never. The last Chula Vista Council meeting was worth watching, if only to hear former Councilman John Moot unload on embattled Democrat Councilman Steve Castaneda in the time allocated for public comment. The reason: the +/- 200k that Castaneda demanded, and got, from Chula Vista taxpayers for his recent legal issues. But it gets better. Democrat Councilman... read more »

President State by State According to Rove
By South Bayster | 09/08/08
For those of you who follow national politics Karl Rove's state by state map tracks how each state is trending over time. I found it odd that this morning's national polling shows McCain surging, but on a state by state basis Obama appears to actually be picking up steam. Or maybe Rove's polling reflects earlier, pre-convention numbers. One way or the other its interesting reading, as is the rest of the Rove website. HERE is the link (you... read more »

The Fight for Chula Vista is Just Starting
By South Bayster | 08/27/08
Whatever the troubles at City Hall, and there are many, the next dozen weeks will determine what the make-up of the council will be. The possibilities are actually many: Cox (R), Hall (R), Vinson (R), McCann (R), Ramirez (D) Cox (R), Hall (R), McCann (R), Castaneda (D), Ramirez (D) Cox (R), Hall (R), Castenada (D), Ramirez (D), OPEN Cox (R), Vinson (R), Bensousan (D), Ramirez (D), OPEN Cox (R), Vinson (R), Hall (R), Ramirez (D), OPEN Cox... read more »

What is Going On in Chula Vista?
By South Bayster | 08/22/08
People who are watching Chula Vista's City Hall have to be scratching their heads and wondering whats going on. First they try to pass a tax increase, presumably to balance the budget, but in the name of 'fairness'. The city staff says that without the tax increase the city will LOSE several million dollars. The tax increase fails. A couple days later the city staff says 'oops... we won't actually lose the money'. Then the city... read more »
