A Day at the Races

By North Pole | 05/06/08

** The police officer's union sent out a mailer in at least the 5th council district today. When I get my hands on it I'll either learn to post or send to Mighty Thor. ** The Thalheimer campaign has sent several mailers out in the last week I have some I'll post or send over. ** The Maienschein for City Attorney campaign is on the radio with an advertisement. ** In the Democrat Primary for Assembly seat 78 Auday Arabo is mailing a short book on... read more »

Maienschein Mailer II

By North Pole | 05/03/08

I have in my hands the Maienschein mailer that is now causing phone calls and emails back and forth around the county. At first I didn't get the reason for the angry emails floating around the county but I do now. The source of the problem: his mailer uses an elephant that looks similar enough to the Republican Party elephant that the Party is up in arms. The rule in San Diego over the past several years, from what I can tell and I'm no expert,... read more »

Lay Off Dumanis

By North Pole | 04/30/08

I'm just going to lay this one out there: I think Republican District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis has done a pretty good job. I'll explain. I'm very wary of elected law enforcement positions, generally. The very nature of an elected position almost requires grandstanding. This is a dangerous way to endanger the reputations of people caught in the crossfire. What I want in a DA or a City Attorney is the least political person possible. Unlike the San... read more »

Yes, dear readers, there are cities other than San Diego...

By North Pole | 04/14/08

Getting back to the November Oceanside elections it looks like the center right will field school board member Republican Jim Gibson against the current officeholder, the liberal Democrat Esther Sanchez. Gibson made a strong bid for State Assembly four years ago, winning Oceanside and building a strong finance base. Now that Jack Orr is gone there is no word who will run the race. It's also strongly rumored that Councilman Rocky Chavez will... read more »

Did Anyone Hear the Hedgecock Interview? YES I DID.

By North Pole | 04/09/08

I'll be the first to say I'm against television personality Marti Emerald. Let that be known. She sounded like she was talking out of both sides of her mouth when Roger Hedgecock asked her about her stand on new taxes and she said "no" then he played a tape of her talking to the Democrats saying it was suicide coming out for new taxes and that she is all for them... wink wink wink. And what was the deal with her consulting firm?... read more »

Oceanside Mayors Race

By North Pole | 03/26/08

Word in the street up here is that Councilman Rocky Chavez may challange Mayor Jim Wood in November. It looks like a safe run for Chavez since he is in the the middle of his 4 year term. With Feller falling back into the council race, Chavez would probably be the strongest possible candidate. With Feller falling back it will be also worth watching to see who the candidate is from the Kerns-Chavez-Feller team for the open seat. More than one and... read more »

My First Post: The Mayor's Race in San Diego

By North Pole | 03/25/08

I was 'hired' to publish additional news about North County San Diego. Where does North County start though? I draw a line above La Jolla and straight through eastward to Imperial County. Above that line is North County, so I feel on good ground to comment on the San Diego Mayoral race, but perhaps not on city affairs more generally.   Like most of you, I'm interested in the San Diego Mayor's race. The issue of a self-funding candidate vs.... read more »
