Teacher's Union Pounding Mitz Lee

By North Pole | 10/22/08

I turned on the television tonight and right away there was an add from, I believe, the teacher's union pounding San Diego Unified School Boardmember Mitz Lee. I don't know much about Mitz, but I know she is a Republican so some of the assertions, like that she fired classroom teachers to hire administrative staff, sounded hollow. If I didn't know who she was at all though that attack might move me to vote against her.   On another note... read more »

News from the North

By North Pole | 10/17/08

Looks like the police union is pasting up signs all over San Diego's First District for Sherri Lightner. The problem? The residents of the 1st have a very aggresive policy about what they consider litter. The cops just kicked a bee's nest. read more »

By North Pole | 10/02/08

Another great article (read here) from the Voice of San Diego talking about the San Diego School Board that passed a policy that says (from the Voice):   School board members "will not publicly express individual negative judgments about superintendent and staff performance," the rule reads. "Any such judgments of superintendent or staff performance will be expressed in executive session." They must also "respect decisions of the board... read more »

UT Savages Oceanside "Troika"

By North Pole | 09/16/08

Today's UT Editorial savages the "Oceanside Union Three" of Mayor Jim Wood, Councilwoman Esther Sanchez, and Councilwoman Shari Mackin. Mackin has, of course been eliminted from the council and replaced with a solid Republican. Wood is in a toss-up fight for re-election against Republican Councilman Chavez. Sanchez is up this time in a field of, I believe, four. Personally I think the Council race is most important. Wood is fairly harmless if... read more »

Who is Chuck Lowrey?

By North Pole | 09/05/08

Who is Chuck Lowrey, candidate for Oceanside City Council? As I research candidates for local political office for this blog I sometimes strike gold. This is one of those times. It's not at all clear from his website what Lowrey's political affiliations are. So I dug a little deeper. Sometimes you can judge a person better by who, for instance, they give political money to. Look here - Lowrey has given thousands to liberal Democrats and liberal... read more »
