Westminster's Founder's Day Parade threatened by CRA Rally

By Lady Fingers | 10/23/08

Yesterday, I received an email from the Westminster CRA (formerly known as the Orange County American-Vietnamese Republican Assembly...you may have read about that transformation on this blog a few months ago) which stated that Assemblyman Van Tran and Mr. Cuong Cao were putting on a rally at Westminster Mall at 9:30 AM for McCain and Palin.  It started out with "If you want the Vietnamese vote"...you will be at this rally. I quickly... read more »

"No on "O" Signs Draw Comments from School Employee

By Lady Fingers | 10/22/08

This morning, near dawn's early light, Patriot Judy Ahrens, with her "NO on Measure O" sign firmly in hand stood on the public sidewalk in front of Warner Middle School in Westminster.  See, as a grass roots effort, and without $40,000+ in funding like the "Yes on O" people have, a few residents want to inform the rest of the Westminster residents that Measure O will raise their taxes.... A hardscrabble effort with no funds but with great... read more »

Political Signs and some suggested rules of "sign etiquette"

By Lady Fingers | 10/18/08

As a candidate, I have been out all day shamelessly posting my signs like all the other candidates for election races in and around my city.  Of course today isn't the first day I have posted my signs and banners.  In doing this, it is necessary to return to where you have posted signs previously to see if they are (a) still there; (b) still looking sharp (c) not fallen over and impeding any foot traffic or other traffic. I noticed a... read more »

Frank Tran a good Choice for Westminster School District

By Lady Fingers | 10/18/08

Last evening I had the pleasure of meeting with Mr. Frank Tran, a candidate for the Westminster School District Board of Trustees.  I had previously thought Mr. Tran was a Democrat....until someone wrote a response to me on this blog telling me he was a Republican.  I had thought he was a Democrat because he had been asked in a previous election by two Democrats if they could use his name on their slate (late in the election because... read more »

Westminster School District Raising your Taxes with your own Money!

By Lady Fingers | 10/14/08

The Westminster School District has now posted what appears to be hundreds of signs in and around Westminster touting "Yes on "O" - For our Schools - Westminster School District."They are asking for $130,000,000 in bonds to fund a shopping list of the finest implements education can provide.  I would urge anyone in Westminster to read the shopping list they have and to consider that at this time the economy of our country and our state are... read more »

Westminster City Council Bans Speech on Measure "O"

By Lady Fingers | 10/09/08

Westminster's City Council meeting was hot and sweaty.  The air conditioning at the last two meetings have left council faithfuls and other attendees fanning themselves with the agenda. But the more important part is that this City Council has always allowed all speakers who come up during Oral Communications to talk on any topic they wanted to.  We have had representatives of the Ocean Outfall group come a couple of years ago and... read more »

Westminster City Council Stays True

By Lady Fingers | 09/25/08

At a most remarkable meeting of the Westminster City Council last evening, this City Council showed what being an elected official should mean.  When temptation stands at the door and knocks, this group tell it to "go away". With exemplary leadership from Councilman Kermit Marsh, Mayor Margie Rice, Mayor Pro Tem Andy Quach, Frank Fry and Tri Ta; they held the line on the very tempting large fund of redevelopment money that comes to... read more »

Higher Taxes coming soon to Westminster, Los Alamitos, Anaheim, Tustin and Cypress

By Lady Fingers | 09/15/08

While some of these school districts are waging an all out community campaign to get these huge bond issues passed, it seems only two communities are waging any kind of resistance. Westminster and Tustin are the only two communities that listed arguments "Against" the bond measures and rebuttals to the school districts arguments in "Favor". The Westminster School District has been really busy. First they sent out a letter to residents during... read more »

WESTMINSTER SCHOOL DISTRICT PROMOTES THEIR BOND ISSUE

By Lady Fingers | 09/08/08

Well, I thought the School District was prohibited from using any of their resources to promote a ballot measure..for $130,000,000..but apparently they must have a loophole somewhere.  They are sending their Financial Officer and the Public Information Officer to the Senior Apartment Homes, "Huntington Westminster", under the guise of a "Legislation Meeting" sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce in Westminster.  Coincidentally, one... read more »

THE TAXMAN COMETH.....

By Lady Fingers | 08/25/08

If you didn't read last weeks post about the school bond issues, you might want to take a look at that post in the archives of redcounty.com.    Your annual taxes, depending on your assessed valuation could be going up considerably.  That translates into a higher house payment.  It also translates into higher apartment rents and higher mobile park rents as owners of that land pass these costs on to their renters. Just... read more »
