BIOGRAPHY
Michelle Malkin makes news, and makes waves, with a unique combination of investigative journalism and incisive commentary. She's not afraid to expose hypocritical environmentalists, needle pork-loving politicians or criticize the MTV generation's morally deprived icons. Most of all, she's not afraid to hold up the Immigration and Naturalization Service to the relentless scrutiny it deserves post-Sept. 11. Her ground-breaking research and reporting led to her first book, "Invasion: How America Still Welcomes Terrorists, Criminals, and Other Foreign Menaces to Our Shores" (Regnery 2002), in which she argues "immigration must be treated as a national-security issue." The book debuted on The New York Times nonfiction best-seller list at No. 14 (week of Nov. 17, 2002). Her second book, "In Defense of Internment: The Case for 'Racial Profiling' in World War II and the War on Terror" (Regnery 2004), offers a defense of the most reviled wartime policies in our history.
Malkin began her career in newspaper journalism with the Los Angeles Daily News, where she worked as an editorial writer and weekly columnist from 1992-94. In 1995, she was named Warren Brookes Fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C. In 1996, she joined the editorial board of the Seattle Times, where she penned editorials and weekly columns for three and a half years. Today, her syndicated column appears in over 100 papers nationwide.
Malkin's work has been cited in The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, Reader's Digest and U.S. News and World Report. Her freelance work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Weekly Standard and Reason magazine. She has appeared on "The O'Reilly Factor," "Hannity and Colmes," "The McLaughlin Group" and "20/20," and is currently a Fox News commentator.
Her hard-hitting -- and news-breaking -- commentary has been honored by several national organizations. Among the journalism awards Malkin has received:
• The 1998 Council on Governmental Ethics Laws (COGEL) national award, for outstanding service for the cause of governmental ethics and leadership, for investigative columns that exposed campaign finance abuses by Washington state Democrats, Republicans and political organizations.
• The 1998 Second Amendment Foundation's James Madison Award, for excellence in journalism "promoting the individual right to keep and bear arms."
• The 1997 National Society of Newspaper Columnists writing award, for general interest columnists in newspapers with a circulation of at least 100,000 (2nd place).
• The 1997 Evert Clark Science Award for journalists under the age of 30, for commentary and analysis of environmental regulations and science policy (honorable mention).
Malkin, the daughter of Filipino immigrants, was born in Philadelphia and raised in southern New Jersey. She worked as a press inserter, tax preparation aide and network news librarian; she is also a lapsed classical pianist. Malkin's hobbies include crocheting and pier fishing with her dad.
A graduate of Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, Malkin currently lives with her husband and daughter in Maryland.

Pelosi's Strong-Arm Tactics Causing Rift Amongst Democrats
By Michelle Malkin | 11/06/09
In 2006, the minority party in Congress issued a dire report on the "unprecedented erosion of the democratic process." Democratic Rep. Louise Slaughter, then the ranking member of the House Rules Committee, authored the scathing document. She blasted the majority Republicans' violations of "procedural fairness," short-circuiting of debate, and late-night meetings "to discourage members and the press from... read more »

Conservatives Abiding by Reagan's Wise Counsel
By Michelle Malkin | 11/04/09
Here is one of the loudest messages of the 2009 off-off-year elections: Conservatives in America will no longer let their opponents define them as outside of the mainstream. They will not submit to Democrats. Or to the media. Or to Beltway Republican capitulationists. They will not "rebrand." They will not sit down. They will not shut up. Just this past weekend, Democratic Rep. Jim Moran attacked the Republican candidates for governor... read more »

Obama's Balloon Boy-Level Rhetoric Aside, Bundlers Rule
By Michelle Malkin | 10/30/09
Like Capt. Renault in "Casablanca," I am shocked, shocked to discover that access peddling is going on in the Obama White House. Perks for deep-pocketed donors? Presidential meetings for sale? The stale Chicago odor of pay-for-play wafting from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? Knock me over with a feather. Despite the president's claimed distaste for the campaign finance practice known as "bundling" (rounding up aggregate... read more »
Free Speech: Fun While it Lasted
By Michelle Malkin | 10/28/09
The war on conservative speech has moved from the White House to your neighborhood pews. Left-wing church leaders want the Federal Communications Commission to crack down on "hate speech" over cable TV and right-leaning talk-radio airwaves. President Obama's speech-stifling bureaucrats seem all too happy to oblige. Over the last week, an outfit called "So We Might See" has conducted a nationwide fast to protest "media... read more »

Political Doctors Cook Up Scary Death Numbers
By Michelle Malkin | 10/23/09
Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida has found his calling: death demagogue. First, he accused Republicans of wanting sick patients to "die quickly." Next, he likened health insurance problems to a "holocaust in America." Now, he's unveiled a new website entitled "namesofthedead.com" in memory of the "more than 44,000 Americans [who] die simply because they have no health insurance." Just one... read more »

Hollywood Coordinating Plot Lines to Push Obama's Agenda
By Michelle Malkin | 10/21/09
Hollywood hearts Obama. Obama hearts government-directed national service. That is why you won’t be able to change the TV channel all week without getting lectured about the need to get off the couch and Do Something. (After your favorite shows are over, of course.) Creeped out? You should be. The entertainment industry, inspired by Obama’s $6 billion expansion of government volunteerism spending, is coordinating plot lines and ads... read more »

Dede Scozzafava and the Myth of the Moderate Republican
By Michelle Malkin | 10/16/09
Here's the dirty little secret about political candidates and officeholders labeled by the mainstream media as "moderate Republicans": There's usually nothing moderate about them. Consider the case of "moderate Republican" Dede Scozzafava, the GOP nominee in the New York 23rd congressional district's special election. Handpicked by local party pooh-bahs and supported by Beltway GOP leaders, Scozzafava is vying to replace... read more »
Fox News Draws White House Temper Tantrum
By Michelle Malkin | 10/14/09
White House interim communications director Anita Dunn assumed the role of lead Fox News Channel-basher this weekend. The attack was a dud. The left-leaning Nation magazine ridiculed President Obama's press shop for turning him into the "whiner-in-chief." AOL media columnist Jeff Bercovici called the war on Fox a "loser's strategy" that "signals weakness." And that's the friendly fire. Dunn found refuge in rival... read more »

Criminalization of Conservative Dissent is Well Underway
By Michelle Malkin | 10/09/09
There are serious problems with the administration of the U.S. census. Americans have good reason to be wary of the stranger's knock on the door. Unfortunately, anything critics say about the federal census can and will be used against them in the court of left-wing opinion. First, the disturbing news about the government's most recent census travails: According to a new General Accounting Office report, botched fingerprinting by ill-trained... read more »

Obama Doctors Support for Health Care Reform
By Michelle Malkin | 10/07/09
Lights, camera, agitprop! The curtains opened on yet another artfully staged performance of Obamacare Theater this week. One hundred and fifty doctors took their places on the plush lawn outside the West Wing -- many acting like "Twilight" groupies with cameras instead of credible medical professionals. The president approved the scenery: "I am thrilled to have all of you here today, and you look very spiffy in your... read more »
