A lifelong resident of Washington State, Bryan Myrick has been an observer of politics and a Reagan Republican since grade school. Having participated actively in aspects of local politics – serving on the Municipal League of King County’s Candidate Review Board as well participating as a member of a policy group examining the effect of money on politics - Bryan now tackles issues from the perspective of a writer and blogger. In addition to maintaining the blog he founded during the 2008 presidential campaign – Unequal Time – his writing has appeared on a number of other blogs and online media outlets. He has also participated as a call-in guest on several Seattle radio programs.
Bryan’s previous fifteen years of experience as an owner, executive and manager in the field of mortgage finance (clutching his scruples tightly the entire time) inform his analysis of economic and regulatory issues. He also holds a degree in political science and communications from the University of Washington in Seattle.
My Politics
Favorite President in History:
This has to be a tie between George Washington and Ronald Reagan. The leadership of these men was crucial in helping the nation retain its core set of values through tumultuous times, and each carried out their role with incredible dignity and honor.
My Favorite Politician Today:
I have a great deal of admiration for Speaker John Boehner who is doing well in meeting the challenge of balancing political ideals against obtaining pragmatic results.
This George Washington quote is one that requires a bit of thought, but that ultimately yields a tremendous payoff in its wisdom...
"Arbitrary power is most easily established on the ruins of liberty abused to licentiousness."
-George Washington, 1783
NRSC or Senate Conservatives Fund?
Republican Party or Tea Party?
Why choose? While the GOP and the Tea Party often cohabit the same political space with a tendency for friction not unlike The Odd Couple's fractious Felix and Oscar, the groups have shared goals, a common set of values, and also have the potential to educate each other.
Cut taxes, cut spending or both?
The ultimate goal should be the reduction of the size of government. To that end cutting spending is priority one, and cutting taxes is a necessary part that has to come close after.
