The Truth Hurts: Anti-Abortion Truck Delivers Image of Injustice
By Angie Vogt | 10/14/09 | 02:52 AM EDT | 6 Comments
One of my favorite quotes is attributed to Harry Truman:
"I don't give 'em hell. I tell them the truth and they think it's hell."
I am gratified that KING 5 is telling the story behind the truck with graphic images that is touring Seattle on Wednesday (October 14). The huge display that will be at the University of Washington the next two days are from the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform.
***The images and video clips on their website are very graphic. Wanted to post that warning before I hyperlink the site here. The Students for Life at UW invited them out last spring and again this fall.***
I am very weary of people complaining about how such images offend their sensibilities. I have children too and I am sympathetic with a parent getting caught off guard. But this fight is too important and like so many other issues for conservatives, we too often are intimidated into silence, fearing that people will think we're bigots or puritans for daring to disagree with the mainstream. We are weighing the choice between hurt feelings and the killing of millions of innocents. I know too many women who wish they had been horrified by the idea of abortion before choosing theirs. The story has become too typical on how they were hoodwinked into thinking it was a simple solution.
Rather than images of the truth, we should be offended that this injustice to humanity is continuing to wreak havoc on the psyche of our nation. Mother Teresa (who actually earned the Nobel Peace Prize) said there will be no peace until the end of abortion, which nothing less than society's war against mothers and children.
In a related topic, the NY Times published this fabulous feature on October 9th: Behind the Scenes: Picturing Fetal Remains about a professor of theology who is responsible for the photography behind these ads. She said it best:
In order to see the humanity and beauty of something so small, you have to enlarge it. Otherwise, the baby is invisible and dismissed."
Nichole Lemmon, the chair of the Respect Life Committee at St. Vincent's Parish in Federal Way added her thoughts to the discussion:
"While there are varying opinions on the use of graphic images, let's pray for all of those who will encounter them."
We all need prayers: the truth of abortion really is an apt picture of hell. The truth needs to be told.

|Abortion is a way of life if there was a mistake it should be corrected and that is that.

|I am one who wishes I NEVER had my abortion. I wish I had seen something like this and to have been shocked and horrified into not having the abortion. The heaviness of sadness in my heart is with me every day. I think about the little boy or girl I would have had every day and I miss him/her.

|There are many of us who can only say, "there but by the Grace of God, go I," meaning too many of us were only lucky because we might have done the same. My heart hurts for the women more than the babies. God knows the hurting hearts this has created and he weeps with you.
All best to you,
Angie

|No one likes talking about abortion. No one likes hearing about abortion. Truth is that way too many abortions happen every second and we try to ignore this fact. How can anyone speak out about 5,000 volunteer soldiers dying and not equally speak out about 50 MILLION abortions? As stated in ET, "This is reality"
