> Tuesday, the Senate voted 58 to 40 to kill the F-22 fighter jet - manufactured here at Marietta's Lockheed facility On this one, I agree with President Obama and Sec. of Defense Gates. The F-22 is a bomb and the money is better spent on our current military needs including making sure that our troops in combat have the best equipment and resources available. John McCain agrees too.
> “Murderer Nichol’s tab: $2.3 million and growing,” reports the Atlanta Journal- Constitution (July 21). What an outrage! Last November, I wrote, “A Fulton County jury last week convicted Brian Nichols on all 54 counts – an outstanding verdict - although it comes three and a half years after his capture. If Nichols is given the death sentence, the appeals process should last no more than 60 days. If no stay is granted, he should be executed. Justice deserves no less...,” (“Brian Nichols verdict and Fulton County voting SNAFU,” November 10, 2008). Of course, Nichols was unfortunately spared the death penalty when a jury split 9 to 3, with the majority in favor of Nichols dying by lethal injection. That taxpayers are now footing the bill for his upkeep - until he dies in prison- is an outrage too. Perhaps he won't make it to old age - maybe Satan will yank him down to hell early.
> Former Democratic Governor Roy Barnes is clearly the 300 pound gorilla in the room with the other gubernatorial hopefuls. Barnes has the gold standard of politics - name recognition which none of the others can match in either party.
> A governor's race poll this week puts Barnes ahead of Attorney General Thurbet Baker and Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine out front of Congressman Nathan Deal for their respective party's nomination next year. The rest of the candidates scored in single digits
