Snopes exposed again

Our Icons keep falling by the wayside!

For many years, discerning Internet users have gotten into the habit of checking questionable e-mails they receive on Snopes.com.  We are all too familiar with the "Urban Myths" and outright hoaxes that flood our mailboxes day after day. Unfortunately, too many of us, even those who take the trouble to check, seldom go behind the Snopes headline, which, in theory, summarizes the situation.

For example, in checking out the article below, I went to Snopes.com and entered "Pelosi's Airplane" in the search box. I was immediately led to a link to the article:

1. snopes.com: Nancy Pelosi's Jet ••

Nancy Pelosi spurned use of the Speaker's 'small private jet' and order it be replaced with a 'big fat 200-seat jet'?

Wed, 26 Nov 2008 20:55:22 GMT http://www.snopes.com/politics/pelosi/jet.asp

Ok, great. Snopes has covered the story. So I clicked on the link, and here is what I saw on my screen:

JET SET

CLAIM: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spurned use of the Speaker's small private jet, and ordered it be replaced with a big fat 200-seat jet.

FALSE

So, OK, question resolved right? WRONG!  Read on...Read on!  If you continue down into the heart of the article you learn that all of the accusations about Nancy's travel costs to the taxpayer are absolutely TRUE!!

But Snopes labeled them false because, they claim, Nancy did not ask for the giant plane. It was forced on her because of security concerns.

OK, so does, "Guilty with an explanation" work? But no, Snopes labels it "FALSE" because they know all too well that most users will stop right there and "Walk away contented" so to speak.

Once again, Snopes' hidden political agenda is exposed.

Here is the story:

MADAME PELOSI

Madame Pelosi wasn't happy with the small private jet that comes with the Speaker's job, no, Madame Pelosi was aggravated that this little jet had to stop to refuel, so she ordered a Big Fat 200 seat jet that could get her back to California without stopping!

Many, many legislators walked by and grinned with glee as Joe informed everyone that Nancy's Big Fat Jet costs us, the hard working American tax payers, thousands of gallons of fuel every week.

Since she only works 3 days a week, this gas guzzling jet gets fueled and she flies home to California, cost to the taxpayers of about $60,000, one way!

As Joe put it, 'Unfortunately we have to pay to bring her back on Monday night.'   Cost to us another $60,000.

Folks, that is $480,000 per month and that is an annual cost to the taxpayers of  $5,760,000.  No wonder she complains about the cost of this war, it might cramp her style and she is styling, on my back and yours.

I think of the military families in this country doing without and this woman, who heads up the most do-nothing Congress in the history of this country, keeps fueling that jet while doing nothing.

Madame Pelosi wants you and I to conserve our carbon footprint.  She wants us to buy smaller cars and Obama wants us to get a bicycle pump and air up our tires.

PS. Sorry, I don't know who "Joe" is. I doubt the reference is to "Joe the Plumber".

Snopes doesn't have a political agenda. You obviously do.

<!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 <![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]> <![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 10]> <![endif]-->

You don't like Ms. Pelosi, but that does not mean Snopes.com's research doesn't provide a deeper picture of the truth then the subject junk e-mail that supports your political agenda. Snopes.com has researched a misleading e-mail circulating though the Internet to the best of their ability in attempt to help anyone that doesn't want to take the time to research silly junk e-mail ourselves before getting emotionally charged over FALSE junk rumors, fraud, jokes, etc. Their research, even if it doesn't end with a definitive TRUE or FALSE, is allot better then taking junk e-mail rumors at face value and spreading bogus information.  Instead of crying because their research doesn't support your agenda perhaps they would welcome your help in tracking down the "truth" to a definitive TRUE or FALSE.

Snopes is Liberal

The Author here is absolutely right.  Bottom line - Pelosi did indeed demand the bigger jet for non-stop flying between DC and Liberal Land.  When the story was published and the public outrage surfaced, she changed her tune.  Since the liberal Snopes website has also chaged their tune - to "Mostly False".  Snopes will go to great lengths to defend liberals.  There are many more credible debunking sites out here to use.

Snopes is liberal? Heck, grass is green, too...

Thanks for the story, but just so you know it's not breaking news. ;} They always put spin on any political *fact-checking* they do!

Do something positive for your country!!

$60,000 one-way - if that is true, no wonder airlines are going broke.  That's an avg of $600 per person for 200 seats round trip. ...and that's just to pay for the damn fuel. Then you want to pay flight attendants, pilots, maintenance crew, flight crew on the ground, baggage movers, check-in receptionists, receptionists at the gate, leasing space from the airports... oh yea Travelocity, Expedia, they get a cut... oh boy... forgot we have to pay the executives salaries too. hmm...

So, that's cool if you have your head so far up your ass to believe this spam in your inbox - but now you are going to believe that she is flying solo in a 200 passenger, $60k fuel guzzling jet, 52 f#%*ing times out of the year?!?!?

Snopes should change the status to "completely f#@%ing false".  Perhaps she flew once or twice in a 45 passenger jet.  Did she fly 52-weeks out of the year (and sustain that...), at $60k a clip in fuel costs, in a 200-passenger jet?? Seriously, do you believe this? Seriously??

If you do, please do something positive and shoot yourself - you'll help reduce our unemployment rate.  Either creating jobs or ridding this country of your no good, spam sending, unemployed ass.

Pelosi's Jet and Snopes

Snopes is not liberal. It just wants to report the truth. If the story was flipped and it was about a republican, you'd want Snopes to report the truth then, too.

She never asked for a plane that big and you know it.
