H/T Total Buzz:
Santa Ana Police Chief Paul Walters spent a little while this afternoon in the Oval Office with President Barack Obama as part of the department being honored with the Department of Defense’s Freedom Award.
The department was one of 15 private and public sector organizations who got the award for their support of employees who were called up for either National Guard or reserve duty.
“It was really exciting,’’ said Walters, soon after he and the other award winners were ushered into the Oval Office.

Congratulations to Chief Paul Walters and the fine men and women of the Santa Ana Police Department.

If Paul Walters had any lingering desire to run against Sandra Hutchens, he can kiss them goodbye with this photo.
All Hutchens has to do is mail it out to GOP voters with the tag line "Barack Obama wants Paul Walters to be our next Sheriff."

|I've heard that Chief Paul Walters has no plans to run for OC Sheriff at this time. I do look forward to seeing more photos from this trip and want to thank the brave men & women of the SAPD for not only protecting the streets of Santa Ana, but our Country.

|Congratulations to the men and women of the Santa Ana Police Department and to Chief Paul Walters for their achievement. Chief Walters is an excellent leader and the kind of boss most of us in law enforcement would have loved to work for. Whether you agree or disagree with the man in the oval Office, he is still the President of the United States and I for one still respect that position.

|Congrats to Walters and my respect for the officers that serve us statewise and in the Military.

|It would be even better if the dept of defense paid Santa Ana back.
the US government is suppose to pay the wages of soldiers not the city of Santa Ana.

|Kudos to the City Council, Chief Walters and the SAPD. Either because of Chief Walters or the CC, or both, the SAPD has established a culture of transaprency not matche by many law enforcement agencies. Under current conditions, other cities should look to the SAPD for law enforcement services.
