The mail ballot over the Chula Vista sales tax increase is coming around the bend. The sales tax now is 7.75%. The state sales tax increase + the proposal on the ballot would increase this to 9.75%, which Just about a 10% tax on just about everything you buy. Add on the new business taxes proposed by President Obama and Governor Schwarzenegger and we are talking about shutting down any number of job providing small businesses right here. "But its only a penny" is the cry of local government taxers, which is true, but those pennies add up, and even thought the Cox - Sandoval tax is planned to expire in 10 years doesn't it seem like every time a tax is due to expire the pro-tax politicians have gotten used to the money and fight for an expansion (then they use the arguement 'it's not a tax hike it's just continueing a tax that is already there').

This morning's Union Tribune ran an article that said Chula Vista landowner Earl Jentz who is looking to put a smaller, less lengthy, tax on the ballot that would presumably replace the Cox - Sandoval tax if it passes. How about no new taxes?
