Last night both the Senate and Assembly passed a budget, complete with a 14 billion dollar, regressive tax hike. The Sacramento Bee provides a calculator to determine how much it will cost you right here. Note to Mayor Cox down in Chula Vista -- the state tax hike is going to cost me nearly $1,800 a year: I don't think I need your several hundred dollar tax hike on my family as well.

Which Republicans voted for the tax hike in the end: former Senate leader Dave Cogdill, Senator Roy Ashburn, and Senator Abel Muldonado. The price of Muldonado's vote was an 'open primary' initiative on the next ballot. Read more about that at Flashreport, which I've taken to reading daily, here. In the Assembly Republican Leader Villines, Assemblyman Anthony Adams, and Assemblyman Roger Niello voted for the budget.

I know talk around the water cooler doesn't mean alot to the politicians up in Sacramento, but in my office this week people of every party were pretty damn angry that we were going to have to pick up the bill for Sacramento.
