Who is Chuck Lowrey?

Posted by: North Pole | 09/05/2008 1:43 PM

Who is Chuck Lowrey, candidate for Oceanside City Council? As I research candidates for local political office for this blog I sometimes strike gold. This is one of those times. It's not at all clear from his website what Lowrey's political affiliations are. So I dug a little deeper. Sometimes you can judge a person better by who, for instance, they give political money to. Look here - Lowrey has given thousands to liberal Democrats and liberal causes. How liberal? Dennis Kucinich for President. MoveOn.org. Francine Busby for Congress. Although it is NOT listed on his website, he also is endorsed by the local Democrat Party.

and your point would be? This is a non-partisan race and he is a successful businessman, unlike Feller who lost his business or Gibson who as President of the Vista school board sued the City of Oceanside over his fiasco magnet school in Oceanside. It's about time we voted for candidates who care about our community and have the strength of intelligence and business success to lead. Or do we just blindly vote for the party and not the person?
This is the first year I will break off party line voting.

I can't figure out why liberals come on here and can't figure out the content. Yes, it's a non-partisan race, but this is a Republican blog. It's of interest to some of us that a "successful businessman" is so willing to support candidates and causes that would drive them out of business thru more taxes, regulation and government given the chance. As Jantz wrote, kinda like writing a check while bending over and getting whipped, or something like that.

I don't blindly vote for the party all the time, but I sure won't support a local non-partisan candidate that is so blatantly liberal thru their giving, yet is hiding it on their website.

Thanks North Pole for the research and for the worthwhile post that does have a point, even if the liberals don't get it.

Um, readers, we arent talking about simply a liberal here, we are talking about someone who supported Dennis Kucinich for President, who gave him thousands of dollars. This man may be a business man, but he is NO FRIEND OF ANY BUSINESS OWNER.

Coast Watcher said:

Uh..he is a business owner and sucessful one at that. I'm not sure I'm getting the logic here. He is able to suceed without a problem. And North Pole, next time you research, prehaps you will spell the man's name right? I respect the work this man has done with education and gangs. There is more to the race and the man here than requiring ones blind obedience to party. I believe he and I share the same family values regarding accepting responsiblity and we seem to both be very much fiscal conservatism. Thanks for getting his name out and helping the rest of do our research too.

I cannot believe after reading some of these blogs that anyone would think that Charles "Chuck" Lowery is anything but an extreme partisan. In fact he even makes Barbara Streisand look like a conservative. I know who Chuck is! Let me review for you who he is. First of all, he has given over 8 thousand dollars to MoveOn.org If you don't know who MoveOn.org is they are the organization that called General Petraeus a traitor in a full page ad in the New York Times. Chuck is one of the featured speakers for The Daily Kos events when it comes to opposing the Iraqi war. I could go on and on about Chuck Lowery but to save you the words why don't you just search on Google under "Chuck Lowery" "Oceanside". Where you will see that he has started organizations called North County for Peace and Justice which protest the Iraqi War in fact Chuck has probably given close to, or more than 50 thousand dollars to left wing causes but at the same time he claims he will be cutting health insurance for his own employees. The thing that bothers me most about Oceanside City Council Candidate Chuck is his attempt to hide that information from the public. On his website he talks about how he loves veterans. The only veterans Chuck loves are the ones who protest the war! Chuck's lack of honesty and straight forwardness is demonstrated in the fact that he does not mention who endorses him. Again a quick search of Google shows that he is endorsed by "The Progressive Times" and numerous anti war groups. And of course his biggest endorsement is from the Democratic Party so please don't try to tell me that Chuck is just an average "non partisan" all I see from Chuck if he gets elected, is rancor and protests. With Oceanside being a military town I am sure that the Marines and their families, once they hear this, will be greatly disappointed if they have voted for Chuck. It seems like the papers in the area don't have the political courage to actually report on these facts. So please fellow bloggers don't give me the garbage that Chuck is a non partisan and not an activist saying that only makes Barbara Streisand, Jane Fonda and other left wing activists look like moderates.

Ooooh, isn't it awful that someone founded an organization for peace and justice? What is wrong with you people? Is war that fabulous that we should just fight anyone who comes along? I'm pretty middle of the road politically, but why haven't you people realized yet that we went to Iraq for oil? We all knew there were no weapons of mass destruction, so the Bush admin backpedaled and said we're bringing them democracy. We went in there under false pretenses. It's just horrible that someone would want peace and justice, isn't it?

The more I see what you people write on this site, the more left-leaning I become.

Two Words for Annienonymous said:

"DENNIS KUCINICH"

One more?

"MoveOn.org"

These are NOT center left candidates or organizations. They are hard left. And they do not represent Oceanside's values.

Dear Annienonymous:

Praytell, where is this oil? How exactly did we get it? Put up or shut up.

And you dont sound left leaning, you sound like a radical.

Tommy said:

I did a search on Google under Chuck Lowery and this guy has to be one of the biggest anti-war protestors in North County San Diego. He actually is the founder of the big protest organization called Peace and Justice United which protests the Iraq war and the Marine Corps in Oceanside. Can you imagine what it would be like if Chuck gets elected and uses his position to further his anti-war activism. I'm really surprised that North County Times has not done an article on Chuck's extreme left wing activism and the fact that he is trying to run in a military town. I know that Jim Gibson is also running for City Council in Oceanside. Jim's qualification seem to far surpass Chuck's. Jim is a former Marine Corps Captain, holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration and is a business owner. Ol Chuck only lists that he graduated from high school in Oceanside as his educational background. Gibson is a true patriot and Chuck is anti-military. It's a shame that North County Times or the Union Tribune has not done an article to contrast these two candidates.

Annienonymous said:

Oh Snap, I don't care what you think of me, but if you think you're so smart, why exactly are we there?

Tommy said, just because a person doesn't like this particular war doesn't mean he or she is anti-military. I think we should be looking for Osama and his merry men.

Answer the Question said:

Annienonymous you are the one who said we were there for oil. So tell us what you mean... I dont remember us packing up any oil and bringing it home. I dont remember us taking ownership interests in the oil companies.

From what i remember we were there to stop the spread of nukes

TO Annienonymous
Oh, please I've lived long enough to remember the Vietnam War where the left wing activists would constantly berate the war and spit on our soldiers returning. I realize the left has learned its lesson, that they don't want to appear to be anti-military but that is exactly what they are. You can't support the troops without supporting the mission. My friends who are in Iraq are fighting terrorists who would come here and kill you and I if given the opportunity. They are risking their lives, their families go to bed at night praying for their safe return. Some will never return because they have given their lives to fight terrorists and keep you safe. So don't give me your trivial nonsense that Chuck Lowery is against the war and not the military. If he wants to support the military, he needs to support the mission. But what makes this even worse is when he talks about supporting veterans in Oceanside, he tries to hide the fact that he is anti-military. The only veterans he supports are the few that come back and oppose the war. Tell your friend Chuck to run an honest, open campaign for City Council. Have him tell what he has done to hurt the morale of our troops. Or be honest and move to San Francisco where the more pure form of left wingers is accepted. CHUCK LOWERY IS LYING AND HIDING THE TRUTH ABOUT HIS ACTIVITIES FROM OCEANSIDE RESIDENTS. I'm surprised our paper the North County Times has not published this information. People deserve to know this before voting.

Coast Watcher,

Gibson has never sued the City of Oceanside. Where do you Chuck Lowery supporters get this stuff from? Your friend Chuck Lowery has given over 50k to dems and wacko left groups, and yet you think that chuck is not a partisan? He also said that he is cutting the helth insurance for his employees. Good guy this chuck!? 50K to the lefties and cut helth insurance for your workers. Good business man??

EarthLover said:

I LOVE Chuck! He stands for all the right things! He is anti-war and he is brave enough to point out in a town close to Pendleton that war is NOT the answer! Oceanside is no longer a military town there are a lot of other people in this town that believe like Chuck believes and I am glad that Chuck has the courage to stand up and join in the protests against the Iraqi war. Need I say, military people join the military of their own free will! I am also proud of Chuck that he does not want to overdevelop Oceanside. Let's keep Oceanside the way it is! We have too many businesses in Oceanside now and we are running out of free space and parking in downtown Oceanside. I am also proud to see that the labor unions are supporting Chuck!

jfs said:

What a clown. (Earthlover) We dont want more businesses here. Who do you think pays the taxes in this city for you and your liberal friends to leach off of society? It is small businesses and we are being extorted all the time to pay more and more. When is the last time a welfare recipient or protester paid for someonenes health insurance or put food on a families table? You always expect someone else to do it for you. It is time for all these people to get up and do something besides carrying a sign and whine.

Politics aside, I have this to say about Chuck. I worked for him when he was getting his business off the ground, some 20 years ago. I have to say I've never met anyone in my life with a greater work ethic than this guy. He's absolutely tireless, and a person of remarkably strong will. Against considerable odds, he made his bakery business a success through sheer hard work. I have to believe he'll bring the same dedication to working for Oceanside. That said, there's another set of qualities to any person who is so strong willed: a certain inflexiblity and demand that things be done his way. I believe that describes Chuck as well. Perhaps he has much in common with Sarah Palin, if not politics then a similarity of character. Again, I'm describing the Chuck I knew 20 years ago, so take all this with that in mind.
