Local politics can be very personal

I found this on the Drudge Report and just had to post it. We in North County have a reputation for tough political races and sometimes rancorous relationships with our peers, but this allegation out of Arizona takes things to a whole new level... Of course there is an "ex" involved...
Bitter disputes involving money, booze, pills, porn and death plots all play out in the series of allegations traded between Gilbert Arizona Mayor Steve Berman and his estranged wife in a police report released Friday.
Berman's wife, Michelle, said the three-term mayor once plotted to kill Councilwoman Linda Abbott because he blamed her for his 1993 defeat in a council race...
...He denied to sheriff's investigators that he ever plotted to kill Abbott.
The sheriff's office launched an investigation last week after Michelle Berman contacted a counselor with the Gilbert Police Department saying Berman had threatened to kill her and her father. Gilbert police turned the allegations over to the sheriff's office to avoid a conflict of interest.
The report of the investigation has been turned over to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, which will determine whether Berman will face charges.

Good blogging.
Sure they can... just ask Chula Vista Councilman Steve Castaneda. He is a Republican (although rumored to be changing to a Democrat) subject to withering attacks from the Republican Party and the Lincoln Club during the June election. He actually lost to Mayor Cox's candidate Scot Vinson, and now the two are facing off in a runoff in November.
