Acle fined $75,743 over '05 council run
SAN DIEGO - The Ethics Commission has imposed a fine of $75,743 on former City Council candidate Luis Acle - more than four times as much as the previous top penalty levied during the commission's seven-year history.
The commission ruled that Acle had violated city campaign laws 42 times during a November 2005 special election and a January 2006 runoff for the District 8 City Council seat. Acle lost in the runoff to City Councilman Ben Hueso.
If he cannot afford to pay the fine, one option is bankruptcy, said Stacey Fulhorst, the commission's executive director.
