Website Provides Research and Dialogue on Reforming City Government
SAN DIEGO - Carl DeMaio today announced the launch of CleanUpCityHall.com -- a website dedicated to advancing accountability and efficiency reforms in San Diego city government.
"CleanUpCityHall.com will provide San Diego taxpayers with one-stop access to news, research and commentary on how to fix the city's financial problems and improve neighborhood services," commented DeMaio in announcing the launch of the site.
The website is actually a revamped relaunch of SanDiegoBudget.org--the website that DeMaio sponsored for the past 5 years as a local government watchdog. DeMaio suspended that website during his year-long campaign for San Diego City Council.
"I will never shed my watchdog roots. CleanUpCityHall.com is an extension of those watchdog efforts and will allow me to work with other citizen watchdogs even while serving on the City Council," DeMaio noted.
The site offers several features:
News and Research: The site offers links to videos, news articles, studies, and reports on happenings at City Hall. The site will also provide links to research studies covering innovative ideas from other cities and counties across the country.
Discussion Forums: To stimulate public participation in their local government, the site hosts 16 issue forums where the public can discuss various ideas for improving city government.
Ratings on City Services: The site also offers citizens a chance to "Rate City Services" using an online customer service survey--something the City website does not provide.
Questions on Council Docket: To maximize oversight over decisions pending before the City Council, the website solicits questions and commentary from the public on items on the City Council docket. DeMaio has committed to ask the best questions once he is sworn in as a Councilmember later this year.
DeMaio is committed to keeping the site strictly non-partisan--encouraging divergent ideas and healthy debate on options for reforming city government. The site currently features commentaries from local civic leaders such as Peter Q. Davis, Theresa Quiroz, Carolyn Chase, Donna Frye, Richard Rider, Adam Summers, and Erik Bruvold. In a twist, the site also features commentary from individuals writing under pseudonyms--to protect the identity of whistleblowers.
