Help the Minutemen Defeat the Latino Caucus

Posted by: Mighty Thor | 05/16/2008 6:37 PM

From The San Diego Minutemen:

Friends:

We've done a lot of important work for this country together, and I appreciate the support you've given to the causes we've fought for, including the Recall Gray Davis Committee, the Defend Reagan Committee, my campaigns for Congress and the pro-troop efforts of Move America Forward (accomplished in partnership with my good friend, Melanie Morgan).

I know it's been a while since you've heard from me, and please forgive my relative silence as I have been starting a new family.

However, I'm active once more with an important fight that requires your attention. It's been my honor to join forces with the San Diego Minutemen who are involved in a huge battle with open border advocates including the Latino Caucus in the Legislature, which is always standing up for illegal immigration, and the California Department of Transportation.

The Minutemen participated in the state's "Adopt a Highway" program and collected and removed trash from along the roadways of Interstate 5 in California.  The following sign was erected by CalTrans as part of the permit to recognize the efforts of the San Diego Minutemen to help beautify the state:

The problem:  The Latino Caucus, which has pushed for drivers' licenses for illegal aliens, amnesty and lower tuition rates for the children of illegal aliens, cried foul and pressured the state to silence the Minutemen.  Shamefully, the Department of Transportation agreed, and took down the sign.

Well we're not going to stand for it.  The Minutemen do great work securing our nation's border, ensuring the rule of law, informing citizens of the threats from illegal immigration and providing for a safe America.  This is the job our government is supposed to do, but has chosen NOT to do and now our government has taken the side of the open border advocates - and against the Minutemen.

We've begun a legal battle to restore the sign, and we are determined to win.  As we wage this battle we've already begun to rack up big legal fees and we need your support if we are able to be continue and win this fight.

If we let the open borders lobby win this fight, they are just going to be more encouraged to keep pushing American citizens around and defying our rule of law.  We have to stop them now when we have a good case in court.

Victory is close at hand.  The judge in the case told the Department of Transportation the following:

"It would seem you're saying you're allowing the people who are unhappy with the message to dictate who can be in the program..."

I've been doing interviews with the media to get our story told.  You can see my interview with Fox - CLICK HERE TO WATCH.

But this fight has already proven to be very expensive, and could become more expensive if there are court delays.

We desperately need to raise $30,000 to cover the legal fees  amassed thus far.

We need your help in the form of a financial donation to fund our legal fight.  Whether you can afford just $10 or $30 or a more generous contribution of $100 or $300, please do whatever you can to help.  There are no contribution limits.

Thank you again for your tireless efforts in all the projects we've taken on.  We've helped to make this a better world for future generations, but we still have much work to do.  I hope I can count on your support in this effort to protect our borders, defend the Minutemen, and protect the right of free speech for all Americans!

Caltrans is definitely being influenced by someone. There is also the case in LAGUNA BEACH where the city is operating a day labor site that knowingly aids illegal aliens.

The land was discovered to be owned by Caltrans (ROW on Highway 133). The land was put up for auction with an appraised value of $1.2 MILLION, but the law states that it has to be offered to other government agencies before it can be opened to the public.

The only entity who made an offer was the City of Laguna Beach. Their offer was $7,000. When Caltrans turned their offer down the City of Laguna Beach stated that if the land were to be sold they would zone it as "open space" and therefore no development can happen. This immediately DEVALUED the land drastically.

Even though there has been some interest in the land with one businessman willing to buy it for $1 MILLION if it could be developed and another wishing to buy it for $200,000 to turn it into a memorial park for those killed in DUIs, Caltrans claims they are bond by law to sell it to Laguna Beach.

There was a third appraisal done (at Caltrans expense) and it was appraised for $18,000. It's very funny because, $18,000 is EXACTLY the cost Caltrans paid for the appraisal.

So, bottom line is that the City of Laguna Beach is buying the land for $18,000 and they will declare it as "open space", BUT Grandfather in the day labor site. Caltrans will end up with a draw since they are paying $18,000 for the appraisal.

This all is happening in light of the fact that we have a $15 BILLION state deficit. Although there are buyers wanting this valuable land Caltrans (and our state) has to basically sell this land for pennies to Laguna Beach.

OK, here's where it ties in with what is happening in San Diego.....Will Kempton, Director of Caltrans, is claiming he denied the MM their Litter Cleanup sign due to "safety issues", BUT when State Senator Tom Harman, Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, myself, and many other taxpayers complained of the HUGE safety issue of the day laborers darting through traffic on the state highway, soccer balls being kicked into the highway, risk of fires (DLs smoking), and illegal gambling happening right off the state highway his response to me was that "his concern is with disposing with excess land".

So, Caltrans claims safety issues to deny the SDMM a Litter Cleanup sign, but ignore the safety issues when it comes to Laguna Beach running a day labor site just feet off a state highway.

You may view pictures of the safety issues here:
