This just in from the Thalheimer campaign...

San Diego County Apartments Association Endorses Thalheimer for City Council

SAN DIEGO, CA - San Diego City Council District One candidate Phil Thalheimer, businessman and civic leader, announced today a key endorsement from the San Diego County Apartments Association.

"We are pleased to endorse a candidate who will champion the kind of common-sense economic reform that will strengthen the vitality of San Diego,  which in-turn helps the rental housing industry," said San Diego County Apartment Association President Linda Morris.

Thalheimer owns and operates San Diego Flight Training International - the largest such school in San Diego County.

He also spearheaded the movement to save the Mt. Soledad Veterans memorial, which resulted in President Bush signing legislation that turned over the memorial land to the federal government for permanent preservation.

The civic leader also headed up Southern Californians for Jessica's Law, the voter-passed initiative making California one of the toughest states against sex offenders.

"I am honored to have the support of the San Diego County Apartment Association, which continues to provide effective leadership on behalf of a vital segment of the local housing industry in pursuit of a stronger economy," Thalheimer said.

The San Diego City Council District One seat will be open in the 2008 election due to term limits. The district includes the communities of Carmel Valley, La Jolla, Rancho Peñasquitos, Torrey Pines, Torrey Highlands, Del Mar Mesa, Torrey Hills, and University City. Phil's been racking up some decent endorsements lately. I would say he also made a pretty good showing last week at the forum - it's just a shame more people weren't there to hear his ideas. Guess the shock of the city being a broken down jalopy has worn off and no one cares who's voted into office ...

Congrats Phil! Keep up the good work!

Great that Phil is getting endorsements from folks that don't have any influence in District 1! Instead, he should be showing up for debates. He was a no show at the City Club/Cat Fish Club joint session debate today for D1 and D7 candidates in Balboa Park. The moderator made a point to ask Phil some questions regarding his $1mil loan to himself, unfortunately Phil didn't have a response. Pretty embarrassing. Luckily those in attendance were able to hear what Merrifield had to say about his position and plans for brining back the city's bond rating and representing some effective financial policies (managed competition for one, something Sherri, who looked utterly confused and disconnected up there today, doesn't understand). Phil is not out in the community and not talking to voters. Phil's got a problem....

D1 Watcher, why don’t you call Phil and ask him why he was not there, I did. He answers his own cell, and the campaign gives it out to anyone who wants it. Maybe it is you who have the problem....

Great idea, why dont we all just conference call Phil in for debates and discussions. Why show up to public debates to discuss openly how you think you can solve the City's fiscal problems, when you can chat on your cell or even text message your responses in? Looks like the wave that Phil has been riding for the past 5 years has all but dried up. I do find it odd that Red County is all over Marti Emerald for not showing up to the debate, yet little to no mention of Phil skipping it.

Gee, ya think D1 and dude could be Marshall plants? What's sad is that anyone would consider that debate important. It's the Catfish Club. Who cares? The only debate I ever attended of theirs was a congressional for the 53rd in which the moderator was utterly bias, and continually made pro-Palestinian remarks in reference to the Bush administration's War on Terror policy. If Marshall wants to line himself up with the local PLO fan club to buffer Thalheimer, then let the chips fall where they may. I don't think the people of San Diego will be so fooled into thinking that somehow he's invested more sweat equity in the community than the guy who led the charge to save one of the most important monuments at Mount Soledad. When people weigh this up, they will see on the one hand, a candidate who has built his own successful business AND worked through the worst of this city and region's political gauntlet to save Soledad and push through J-Law, and another guy who built his own business and did what for the City??? Oh yeah, NOTHING! Phil and Marshall are both great guys, but Phil has way more experience. Experience enough to know to stay away from the PLO fan club.

D1 Watcher- you must not be watching too closely. Phil and his team have been precinct walking everyday for at least six months. Not out in the community? Better do your homework buddy. And I have friends in D1 that have been getting phone calls from him for months.

Better luck next time D1 Watcher...

Interesting to hear Phil's campaign has been walking & phoning aggressively. I'm a 5 of 5 R, in the district, & have not been touched by Phil's people. I have gotten walkers from Merrifield twice.

Let's be fair.

Both campaigns are walking.

Phil rsvp'd NO to the catfish club, while Emerald rsvp'd YES.

what baloney are you trying to spin. it was merrifield who said walking was passe and wasn't going to do it. he's funny too, while a local event in his own community was going on, where was he? at an event for duncan d. candidate for 52nd. what the..........??

I have gotten one mail piece from marshall merrifield and a postcard, invited to a coffee, and been walked by phil thalheimer. I have heard nothing from that Sherri Lightner lady. Phil Thalheimer seems to have more going on, but maybe marshall will do coffees. i think my neighbors and i would enjoy meeting them both, but right now most of them are supporting thalheimer.

Intersting comment from That Interesting, I live in Carmel Valley and have been walked by Thalheimer and Lighter people, in fact Thalheimer came my door himself, but all I got from Marshal so far is mailing. Now who is in the district?
