District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis Honors Phil Thalheimer with Special Award at Citizens for Courage Annual Luncheon
![]()
District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis today presented City Council District 1 candidate Phil Thalheimer with a special award at the 19th Annual Citizens for Courage Luncheon. The businessman and civic leader was honored for his leadership on Southern Californians for Jessica's Law, the toughest anti-sexual predator law in the nation.
"Phil deserves this recognition for his commitment to public safety and his extraordinary efforts in getting Jessica's Law passed in California," said San Diego District Attorney Dumanis.
Thalheimer owns and operates San Diego Flight Training International - the largest such school in San Diego County.
Thalheimer also spearheaded the movement to save the Mt. Soledad Veterans memorial, which resulted in federal legislation that turned over the memorial land to the federal government for permanent preservation.
"I consider it an honor to have received this special award from District Attorney Dumanis. More importantly, I consider it an honor to have worked on such an important measure that will protect California's children," said Thalheimer. "Solving our city's financial crisis to make certain we can provide fire and police protection to San Diego's citizens is precisely why I am running for City Council. I fully intend to work alongside the District Attorney to fight for the full implementation of Jessica's Law and other tough anti-crime legislation to keep our schools, parks, and neighborhoods safe for our children."
The San Diego City Council District One seat will be open in the 2008 election due to term limits. The district includes the communities of Carmel Valley, La Jolla, Rancho Peñasquitos, Torrey Pines, Torrey Highlands, Del Mar Mesa, Torrey Hills, and University City. Very impressive, Phil! Team Thalheimer has been racking up some great endorsements. I can't wait till Phil, Carl, and April are at City Hall. I look forward to the day of no more insane pay increases or ACLU Days.
Keep up the good work Phil!
Phil is a good guy with a strong foundation. I look forward to voting for him!
How much more mileage does the guy expect to make out of these two old stories. Give us a break, already. This is all the guy has ever done in a lifetime of work, not bad, but not worth tootin' one's horn over and over and over again.....
Rerun: Uhhh, the award was yesterday...yeah, that's a pretty old story.
You are right Barry, the award was yesterday. But it was rewarded based upon an action that has happened in the past- an action that Phil does get a lot of credit for. However, this is a story worth repeating. When my kids play in the front yard, I am thankful. When they take the bus to school, I am thankful. When we go to the park...every day this law impacts our lives, and I will continue to tell people about what Phil has done to better our community. No, Marshall fans, I am not a staffer. I am a supporter- dedicated to the cause.
Worth Repeating: Yep. To be honest, I worked to help save the Mt. Helix cross in the late 1980s and continued to list it in four ballot statements over the next 12 years. Stale news perhaps, but how could I not include it? Aside from the "political benefit," I can still point out the cross to my daughter and be proud it's still there. In Phil's case, whether the Soledad cross or stronger restrictions on sexual predators, if he had a political consultant that suggested either issue as old news not worth repeating, that advisor should be fired.
Barry,
I'm no fan of Phil, but you're right. Having said that, saving a cross and paying for an initiative doesn't make someone qualified to handle the finances of America's Finest City.
Note: Barry you have other qualifications and a good track record that earn you the votes when you run again and hopefully soon.
Thanks, that's very nice! Can mighty thor confirm that Didacus' comment didn't come from my computer so people don't think I'm writing this stuff myself? ;-)
IN FACT THE POSTS FROM DIDACUS AND BARRY J ARE FROM THE SAME COMPUTER.
MIGHTY THOR
Check the reports. Phil paid a grand to the actual Jessica's Law committee for the qualifying and turned in less than 4,000 signatures. Something is better than nothing, but when it comes to Jessica's Law, there are about ten thousand people that did more than Thalheimer.
very funny....but, I've had three emails thus far from those thinking I did in fact post both comments. a little help here, please, mighty thor? unless, unbenownst to me, my wife, daughter or someone breaking into my house is Didacus,
I WAS JOKING. THEY WERE NOT.
MIGHTY THOR
Glad to see you all have a sense of humor in Valhalla.
This is ridiculous. Phil's isn't supposed to talk about two VERY important issues that 1. keep our children safe and 2. saved a national war memorial? Give me a break. Both of those issues are very important to San Diego and 76% of the voters agree.
Instead of being jealous maybe some of the other candidates should have done something themselves instead of watching Phil do all the hard work.
I have four children. I can think of nothing more important that recent government has done for them then Jessica’s law. We are all in debt to Thalheimer’s work. I can not vote for him, but I wish I could.
