Granted it was a Republican event but Goldsmith did show that he was head and shoulders above the rest who spent most of their time blaming each other for the city's fiscal mess. And while Maienschein is a nice kid, I sure got the impression that he was in over his head and had few thoughtful answers.
I thought Jan looked cool, calm, and collected. He looked like a real leader.
The other keep blaming each other for the pension mess. Jan can walk in day one without any of the baggage.
Word is you had your best event yet. CONGRATS!!!
what is surprising to me is that the business community (while strongly behind JG) isn't closer to 90%. I am shocked that there are people who would still trust Brian M. after his actions on council. And I am flabbergasted that there was literally a table and a half of people who voted for Aguire. Pretty interesting.
There were extra ballots floating around, so i don't think you can count each ballot as one person. Plus, there was lots of staff and campaigners who are on the candidates payroll in the room. Who knows how many people actually voted for the bottom 4. But, its hard to argue with the overwhelming number of votes Goldsmith got from the group. You can only stuff the ballot box so much.
Goldsmith did well in the debate and the people noticed. He truly looked like the "adult in the room".
I was at the Lincoln Club board meeting during the last city attorney's race (which Aguirre won). At that time, an influential LC member suggested that if Aguirre got elected it would prevent a turnaround at city hall, and that keeping him out of office was more important than anything else, including the mayor's race. His words were true then and they are true this election. We need to focus and work together to take this guy out.
I really dont feel sorry for Brian - he had year after year in office to do ANYTHING to help the gop or the lincoln club or any center right organization or movement and did nothing. Now he wonders why the gop and lincoln club wont co-endorse him?
Well, I guess he did get Congressman Issa's endorsement, which is odd.
Brian did help the GOP. He chaired and keynoted the annual Salute to Republican Elected Officials...the same year he was endorsing Zucchet for city council. The GOP ignored it because "well, Brian and Michael were college friends, so it doesn't matter if our headliners endorse Democrats as long as they have a good excuse for it."
Issa's endorsement of Maienschein is simple: they have the same sacramento political consultant.Maybe not the best reason to endorse, but that's the simple reason.
re what huh?said:
yep, we'll sell our local party soul any chance we can. and now the kvaric has the cajones to complain that "that d-mn brian didn't do anything" for the salute. what a hoot!
