Bob Watkins Gains Endorsement of San Diego County Treasurer Dan McAllister

Posted by: Mighty Thor | 03/25/2008 3:32 PM

This just in from the Bob Watkins Campaign:

Dan McAllister.jpgSan Diego County Treasurer Dan McAllister endorsed Republican Bob Watkins for the open 52nd Congressional District today, adding yet another local elected GOP leader to Watkins' long list of supporters.

McAllister, who is widely credited for re-organizing the County Treasurer's office to improve efficiency, cited Watkins' leadership credentials and long conservative record.

"Bob Watkins is a strong conservative who has a proven record of building companies into successful enterprises," said Dan McAllister. "Bob knows how to meet a payroll, balance a budget, and streamline organizations - all of which we need more of in Congress.  Bob's staunch commitment against raising taxes and his dedication to reigning in out-of-control spending are precisely what we need in Washington."

McAllister's endorsement adds to the growing list of local leaders who have overwhelmingly endorsed Watkins, including former State Senator Bill Morrow, Assemblywoman Shirley Horton, San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chairman Greg Cox, County Supervisor Ron Roberts , Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox, San Diego County Sheriff Bill Kolender, among many others.

"Bob Watkins is the most accomplished candidate running for this seat," said Watkins Spokesman Tim Clark.  "That's one reason why he has gained the most impressive list of endorsements among the field.  Clearly, momentum is on Bob Watkins' side,"

Bob Watkins currently serves as the elected President of the San Diego County Board of Education.  He is also the President of R.J. Watkins & Company, Ltd., a leading international executive recruiting firm with offices in San Diego, San Francisco and London.

Additionally, Bob Watkins is a board member and on the executive committee of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation (EDC).  He is a founding member and trustee of the San Diego National Sports Foundation, and was instrumental in organizing and building the U.S. Olympic Training Center in San Diego.

Before the "Where are the East County Endorsements?" comments are posted I want to point out that Dan represents all of San Diego and yes that includes east county. I also want to point out that in times when the economy is in a troublesome position these types of endorsements really solidify a candidates position on fiscal responsibility. Bob is the only true fiscal conservative in the race and this endorsement solidifies that position.
