Rep. Darrell Issa Endorses Senator John McCain for President

Darrell Issa 3.gifVista, CA - Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Vista), today, announced his support for U.S. Senator John McCain in the 2008 race for President of the United States .  Issa, the architect of the 2003 Recall Campaign of former California Governor Gray Davis, cited Senator McCain's national security credentials and commitment to fighting pork barrel spending in his endorsement decision.

"At a time when our nation is engaged in a global struggle against the forces of terrorism and extremism, America needs John McCain's courage and leadership," said Issa.  "When I look John McCain in the eye, I see a man I trust to lead our country."

"Californians should support John McCain as the candidate who answers tough questions and gives you a straight and consistent answer.  He began fighting against Congressional earmarks even before it became popular and has always stood behind our military and efforts to promote democracy through public diplomacy.  As Commander in Chief, John McCain will provide the leadership on Iraq necessary for the United States to prevail and will conduct this mission in a manner that is consistent with our nation's highest values."

"Senator John McCain is the only candidate for President who understands the high price paid by men and women when we send them into harms way.  He would never ask for a sacrifice without sound reason and careful planning."

Rep. Darrell Issa, an Army veteran and successful businessman, serves on the House Select Intelligence Committee and has worked to promote improved relations in the Middle East .  He is a recognized House leader in efforts to reform the earmarking process.  Rep. Issa has long admired Senator McCain for his service as a Navy pilot, his leadership as Chairman of the International Republican Institute (an organization that promotes democracy abroad), and as a foe of Congressionally mandated pork barrel spending.
