Hot off the press from the April Boling for City Council campaign...
CAMPAIGN FILING DISCLOSURES FOR DISTRICT 7 RACE SHOWS STARK DIFFERENCE IN HOW THE CANDIDATES MANAGE MONEY
San Diego, CA - Today, the campaign disclosure reports by San Diego City Council candidates were filed and made available on-line to the public. This is the first campaign report filed by television personality Marti Emerald since announcing her candidacy and it paints a distinct difference between her and her opponent Certified Public Accountant April Boling and how they both manage money.
April Boling has raised $113,662 since early June. In seven months, April has only spent a little over $52,000, leaving an available balance of $61,804 as the campaign moves closer to election day.
In a stark comparison, since beginning her campaign, Emerald has raised $84,365 and has spent nearly all of it, leaving an available balance of $13,023. When including the $17,529 in unpaid bills, Emerald has spent more than $71,000 in four months.
"It is a bit shocking to see how much money Ms. Emerald has spent on her campaign in just four months," stated Jennifer Jacobs, who is part of Boling's campaign team. "This is a pretty good indication of what Ms. Emerald would do as a Councilwoman - continue the current rate of excessive spending, pay high-priced consultants and leave nothing in reserve. The taxpayers should beware of this kind of troubleshooting."
April Boling is running for city council to return financial stability to the City of San Diego. As a Certified Public Accountant, she is uniquely qualified to bring a set of skills that are sorely missing on the council - the skills of someone who reads financial statements, understands pension issues and knows how to balance a budget.
"I am managing the finances of my campaign the same way I will manage the finances of our city - by watching every dollar, spending only on necessities and infrastructure and keeping money in reserve." said April Boling. "It is clear from the reports that my opponent and I are running very different campaigns. Instead of spending tens of thousands of dollars on high priced consultants, I have spent the majority of my time campaigning by walking to the doors of over 11,000 voters. This is not a time for slick campaigns, it is a time for listening and it is a time for providing real solutions to San Diego's financial problems."

So Emerald has a spending problem... big surprise. Isn't this the liberal Democrat who was recruited by the labor bosses?
April's campaign sent out a press release that quotes her campaign consultant? Is this a joke. This contect of this press release is about as relevant to the District 7 voters as April herself is.
Uh....it really isn't all that uncommon for a candidate's consultant or even campaign manager to issue statements on behalf of their candidate.
Let's be careful before we start down the road with how much a candidate spends and what that means for their spending in office.
- How much did Kevin Faulconer spend in his June 2006 re-election, when the only candidate against him dropped out?
- How much did Jim Maddafer and Brian Mainschein raise and spend against no challenger?
- How much is Nathan Fletcher raising for having no challenger?
Both parties raise and spend like drunks, because it is win at any cost, right Dichiara?
Actually I think "People that Live In.." should go back and take a look at the spending of Madaffer, Maenschein, and Falconer when they were unopposed.
The answer: not much.
I know who the politicians are who are mentioned above, but who is Dichiara? A blogger you agree with?
There is a difference between raising money and spending it wisely vs. raising money only to blow it on hotel rooms and consultants. Even in an uncontested race, a candidate can wisely use fundraised money to raise name id, improve political infurstructor or even donate it to other candidates.
Plus, i wouldn't use Madaffer and Maienschein as examples of Republicans, they walked on our party the day the underfunded the pensions.
Faulconer is in a contested seat and will always spend money to improve his standing. Otherwise somebody will seize the opportunity to take him out.
Great, April has more money. Now let's hear from her campaign people how she plans on closing a 40+% gap between her and Emerald. Time for some consultants to start earning their money.
In re 'Leonidas' comments re 'lets hear from her campaign people how she plans on closing the gap':
I realize there is no IQ requirement on REDCOUNTY (which is proven over and over) but is this author for real or just another (not to bright) Dem shill?
Sir, do you really think whoever is consulting for Boling or any other candidate should roll out their strategy?
Maybe that should be the next press release?
To tie up some threads here:
Duane Dichiara is a Republican political consultant with a company called Coronado Communications. www.coronadocommunications.com
This company is April Boling's consultant in the council race in question.
A number of people also believe Duane Dichiara to be the alter ego of MIGHTY THOR (I'm starting to look around for the hammer of censorship here, THOR)
Ron? You think Dichiara might be Mighty Thor? Yes...and I was told he might be starring as the next James Bond too. Please...
I prefer gin martinis... stirred.
Ever thought that Mighty Thor might be several people? Seriously... And perhaps several blog names are the same network of people? Probable...
in the end, who cares? what does matter is Red County has become an important source of news and spin for the right. it serves a key purpose.
Several people...kinda like Deep Throat
DDD is more a Gimlet drinker...
Duane can barely keep up his posts on Flash...doubt he would add this to his plate.
So fat and happy from the Superbowl (GO GIANTS) I returned home to read this chain.
I go back to Leonidas' comments:
"Great, April has more money. Now let's hear from her campaign people how she plans on closing a 40+% gap between her and Emerald. Time for some consultants to start earning their money."
I've GOT to agree with "That's Smart" -- do we really, really want the people who run Republican campaigns to start spewing their strategies on blogs? Novice.
I know Duane Dichiara and 1...he would love to have that much time and 2...he definitely doesn't drink gimlets. I think Duane would rather die before he would ruin good gin.
Gimlets or not, Mighty Thor or not, everyone knows that Duane CONTROLS Mighty Thor.
When is Duane not in control! Gin or Gimlet, he should be drinking "Jameson"…stirred. “Life's too short not to be Irish!”
