Poizner and Leonard join Michelle Steel in supporting Shawn

(Sacramento) - Today, the Shawn Steel for National Committeeman campaign announced endorsements by Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, and Board of Equalization Member Bill Leonard who joins fellow BOE member Michelle Steel in supporting Shawn.

"I am honored to have their support as we move forward to strengthen the California Republican Party's position with the national party," said Shawn Steel.

"It's unusual to have high-profile Republicans get involved in a national committeeman race, but that reflects the deep desire by the California GOP to have strong representation with the national party," added Steel spokesman Mike Richman.

Insurance Commissioner Poizner, and BOE Members Leonard and Steel are part of a growing list of Steel supporters, which includes the Los Angeles County Republican Party, the California Young Republicans, and the Young Republican Federation of California, among dozens of others.

Shawn Steel is the former Treasurer, Vice Chair and Chairman of the California Republican Party.  Under his watch, Californian Republicans narrowed the partisan voter registration gap with the Democrats, and the GOP made substantial gains in legislative races.

Shawn Steel's wife Michelle is a California State Constitutional Officer, having won election to the Board of Equalization in 2006.  Shawn served as Chairman of the Michelle Steel for BOE campaign, helping Michelle become the highest ranking elected Republican Asian American in the U.S.
