BREAKING NEWS: COUNCIL DISTRICT 7

I was pretty shocked when I saw City Attorney Mike Aguirre's disclosures... but I was totally stunned to see Marti Emerald's in the hotly contested San Diego 7th Council District Seat. In short, Emerald raised 81k and loaned herself 2k. That's ok, I guess. She then spent 53k, leaving her with around 30k on hand, with 17k in bills. So Emerald has all of 13k on hand. And she's going to be fiscally responsible at City Hall??

Marti launched her campaign Sept 12. so she couldn't spend money before then.
So she spent a whopping $53k (and with accrued expenses $70k) in a little over 3 months.
That's CRAZY. it's not fiscal responsibility and worse for Marti, it doesn't win elections.
So what were April's disclosures praytell... let me guess they were not published in this right wing rag so she was right araound the same place as Marti
Im more interested to see WHAT Emerald spent her money on: meaning did she put money in her postage account for later, or buy things like signs she could use later or did she squander it?
Will someone please look at both candidates and post what the heck is actually going on. Meaning: if Emerald raised 80k and has 13k on hand I think we'd all agree she's running a sloppy campaign -- unless April raised 80k and has 12k on hand. lol.
I think we also have to remember Emerald just released a poll. Many of us have actually seen the questions which were about 30 minutes in length. Meaning: another 15k down the hole.
The short story...
April raised less money but has more on hand. All of her money has gone to campaign lit, voter information and some basic consultant fees. Money spent where it counts.
Marti has blown cash on hotel rooms, tickets to events (Charity and Democrat), and thousands on consultant fees. I honestly think she has a half dozen consultants on retainer. Plus i think i saw over 6k on "stationary", that union bug is expensive!
I can only imagine what Marti's "office expensises" will be if she makes it to City Hall. She has no control when its her own money!
All I care about is from EACH candidate:
* Total raised to date
* Total spent to date
* Total cash on hand
To view any city candidates campaign finance disclosure, got to the San Diego City Clerks public access portal. Aprils filing period ending 12/31/07 has yet to be posted, but you can check by going here:
http://nf4.netfile.com/pub2/AllFilingsByCandidate.aspx?id=581207&candidate=Catherine+Boling
from clerks office:
Boling raised $66k--total of $115k for cycle. She has spent around $50k--that's for the whole cycle of 6 months vs. Marti who spent $52k in a mere 3 months. April has about 65k cash on hand--again more than Marti.
