Montclair Councilman Bill Ruh's Hammer to Fall

"Here we stand or here we fall
History won't care at all
Make the bed light the light
Lady Mercy won't be home tonight"
Never have the lyrics to this beloved Queen song rung so true in San Berdo County. As subpoenas fly and suspicions mount, everyone is left wondering when/where indictments will come.
Regardless of the baseless rumors, it seems pretty evident that the cancer stems only from Former Assessor Bill Postmus and from some of the cronies he hired to serve on his executive staff, ala Adam Aleman.
"Oh ev'ry night and every day
A little piece of you is falling away
But lift your face the Western Way
Build your muscles as your body decays
Toe your line and play their game
Let the anaesthetic cover it all
Till one day they call your name
You know it's time for the hammer to fall"
Now that Bill's name has been called and it's time for his Hammer to Fall, he needs to take heed of how another politico named Bill handled his troubles and manages to continue a political career still to this day.
"Rich or poor or famous
For your truth it's all the same
Lock your door the rain is pouring
Through your window pane
Baby now your struggle's all in vain
For we who grew up tall and proud
In the shadow of the mushroom cloud
Convinced our voices can't be heard
We just wanna scream it louder and louder louder"
Many people might not remember it, but Montclair City Councilman Bill Ruh faced many of the same challenges that Bill Postmus faces today. Although we have no idea if either of the Bill's are fans of Freddy Mercury, Bill Ruh certainly took his advice when his hammer fell. When arrested on a DUI charge in 2003, Bill took responsibility for his actions and pled guilty which led to an eventual conviction in July of 2003.
"What the hell we fighting for?
Just surrender and it won't hurt at all
You just got time to say your prayers
While your waiting for the hammer to hammer to fall"
Perhaps Bill Ruh learned a thing or two when he watched his boss, Former Congressman Jay Kim, go down on a corruption scandal where Kim pled guilty to accepting illegal campaign contributions. Perhaps that front row seat taught Bill that when the Hammer Falls, it really doesn't hurt to just surrender. Maybe someone can play this Queen song for Bill Postmus before it's too late. After all, what the hell is he fighting for?
