This is over at Sharon's Blog, too.
From Mark Kirk:
Day one at the Republican National Convention is a mixed bag of emotions. Last night most of the California Delegation sat in the downstairs lounge, full of excitement over our nominee, especially our new VP, watching news reports of Gustav.
In the end, the decision to delay today's proceedings was clearly the right thing to do. Most of the events of today have been turned into fundraisers for the Red Cross or other organizations focused on relief efforts in the Gulf Coast region. So rather than the usual party business and party atmosphere, we're all taking some time to remember our fellow Americans displaced by this storm and thanking God it hasn't been as devastating as predicted.
That being said I did find the time last evening to sit around and chat with some of the Republican leaders in the State. Former Senator Jim Brulte led the conversation which was filled with several former republican legislators. That conversation can be summed up by stating that we still have an uphill battle to climb in order to keep the White House. This looks to still be a tough year for republicans across the country. Needless to say, as a republican on the ballot in November, I'm paying particular attention to these conversations.
That's all for now, as things get into full swing today I'll report back with some of the famous faces hanging around the Twin Cities

Ahhh ... Mark, are you sure it was all about raising money for the Red Cross? ABC News had a different take on what you guys were up to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rni6G7RRFkk
I have often heard that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. In being constantly vigilant from any threat, one would assume that any National threat would come from outside our country’s borders. It is said to state that this is not necessarily the case.
Our immediate threat is the veiled, consistent, bombarding but almost silent changes being perpetuated in the change of our culture. The culture change of our United States of America is being pushed from many fronts. One front is from our own people who in the name of liberal social programs will bow to any pressure of political correctness.
The liberal news organizations, whether they are newspapers, TV, or radio, are constantly chanting for the proponents of “Change”, even though the change is for the corruption and elimination of the core values, morals, and the hard work ethic of the true American. The true American is anyone who is a citizen by birth, is here legally, and one who has assimilated, is learning the language and the principles by which this nation, under God, has prospered for the people of other parts of the world to see and aspire to emulate. Yes, I used the word GOD, so I do not expect this article to be published as written.
I write this to inform anyone who mistakenly believes that the enemy of our country can be recognized by sight. The enemy of our Country can be the very nice senior citizens who have toiled all their lives, the college student who is bright and eager to make a place for themselves in this world,
and the misguided people who actually believe all the misinformation that they access from all the liberal news media. Any and all the above can have the same common political ignorance. As stated by many, these wonderful American citizens do not let the facts stand in the way of the story being pushed by the many liberal leaning news reporting organizations.
One such sad tale is of a lady who railed against one vice presidential nominee because she felt that the nominee’s goal is to “change the religious beliefs” of this lady. This lady derived this from hearing the female nominee use the word God in a speech she was making in reference to the war being fought by our brave men and women.
All I can say is that with the word “God” found in the songs “America” and “America the Beautiful” and intertwined in our culture for generations, all this lady could come up with was that she would not back this nominee or even hear anything that made that nominee a genuine American.
Yes, the enemy of our Country is within our borders.
