Tom DeLay to Speak at Conservative Conference

Posted by: Jessica Austin | 08/13/2008 8:12 PM

Here's another addition to my plethora of postings today; I guess it makes up for my absence last week while I was in DC.

Below is a press release from the Western Conservative Political Action Conference.  They just added former House Majority Leader and conservative leader Tom DeLay to their agenda.
I had the honor to meet DeLay last Spring  while in DC at the CPAC held in the east coast.  Needless to say, he was an amazing (and inspirational) speaker and just an all around nice guy.  We need more fierce leaders like him in the conservative movement.  As a reminder- he was the driving force behind the impeachment of Bill Clinton.

Former House Maj. Leader Tom DeLay to Speak at 2008
Western Conservative Political Action Conference

Newport Beach, CA- The Western Conservative Political Action Conference (WCPAC) announced today that former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay has agreed to speak at this year's conference, October 10th and 11th at the Radisson Hotel in Newport Beach, California.

DeLay was known for his tough Texan style as he led Republicans in the House of Representatives through major conservative legislative victories, including welfare reform, balancing the budget, and reigning in the judiciary.  First elected in 1984, DeLay became a leading conservative on the national stage when he served as House Majority Whip and Leader.  Over the course of his congressional career, DeLay helped Republicans build a voting record that consistently supports limited, constitutional government, peace through strength, lower taxes, and the sanctity of life.

What Others Are Saying about Tom DeLay:

"DeLay stepped down in June 2006, and five months later Republicans lost the House. This is not a coincidence, in my opinion...The conservative movement needs the wisdom of Tom DeLay as we gear up for the 2008 Presidential election." -Sean Hannity

"Call Tom DeLay 'The Exterminator' or 'The Hammer' if you wish. I call him a hero and I call him a friend."--Rush Limbaugh

"If Tom DeLay were a Democrat, we would control the House." -- James Carville in 2002

Since leaving Congress in 2006, DeLay has authored a book titled "No Retreat, No Surrender: One American's Fight" which includes his memoirs and his call on conservatives to rebuild the movement based upon the First Principles of Order, Justice, and Freedom.  DeLay is the Founder and Finance Chairman of the Coalition for a Conservative Majority - a grassroots organization that aims to unite fiscal, defense, and social conservatives under one coalition.  DeLay and his wife, Christine, continue to be outspoken advocates for foster care reform and are actively involved in Rio Bend, a unique foster care community in Richmond, Texas, that provides safe, permanent homes for abused and neglected kids. DeLay is also a frequent commentator on conservative politics and the 2008 campaign, often appearing on cable television, conservative talk radio, or writing on his blog.

"Tom DeLay drove the conservative cause through Congress, and now he's driving the message that conservatives must unite to take our country back and rebuild the conservative movement," said Jim Lacy Chairman of Western CPAC.  "When Tom DeLay speaks, he doesn't just give his opinion - he puts conservatives to work and it's that kind of action we need building up to this election.

Other confirmed speakers at this year's Western CPAC include radio talk show host and eldest son of Ronald Reagan, Michael Reagan; Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, Assemblyman Chuck DeVore; and anti-tax leaders Jon Coupal of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, and Lew Uhler of the National Tax Limitation Committee.
