Governor Sarah Palin: McCain's VP?

Posted by: Jessica Austin | 08/28/2008 10:47 PM

Palin1.JPG

If my information (and guess) is correct- Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska is McCain's VP pick.  McCain is making his announcement tomorrow in Dayton, Ohio.  Look who chartered a jet from Alaska to Ohio this evening... How many people do you know charter jets from Alaska (especially considering their population) to Ohio- the location of the Republican presidential nominee?

If she is his pick, he made an excellent choice.  Governor Palin is an extraordinary woman and a very wise addition to his ticket.  Who knows what will end up happening- but I am confident this is more than a coincidence... Time will tell....

Jessica, If this turns out to be right, you will be the Red County Golden Girl. I'm thinking Pawlenty, but I would be very happy with Palin. It would take some wind out of Obama's sails.

If McCain pick a woman as his running-mate, it would be great. I hope he pick one of three: Carly Fiorina, Meg Whitman, or Sarah Palin

It is Mitt. McCain's people screwed up and put this up on their website Thursday evening then removed it

Meg Whitman would be a terrible choice.

Scott Graves said:

That McCain/Romney image doesn't seem to have the professional polish of a presidential campaign. Also, why would Romney be placed in front of McCain? Romney might well be the pick, but this image looks like a fake.

Sakaki said:

Marc Ambinder just picked up on the info. If y'all notice, he was one of the first ones to state that Biden was the pick due to the flight from Midway to New Castle, DE.

Larry said:

If it is Mitt Romney, then it defies all logic. Why would McCain choose someone whom he fought with constantly during the Republican primaries? The two men clearly do not like each other. Not to mention the fact that a lot of people do not trust Romney as far as they could throw him, for very good reasons.

Matt said:

Word is that Mitt Romney is out and so is Governor Pawlenty (they wont be appearing with Senator McCain today in Ohio). All I can say is that if he does pick Governor Palin (and it looks likely) It would be a potentially game winning move.

I just wish to congratulate Ms Austin for the fabulous accomplishment of being the absolute first to break this fantastic story. When I first read your post, early this morning, it almost sounded too good to be true!

Congratulations again, Jessica and RedCounty! WHAT A SCOOP!

Jessica (& RedCounty),

Amazing scoop. I went looking for leads at 3 a.m. EDT and yours was the first, which I forwarded onto Matt Drudge. It made for great tipoffs over at RedState.com too!

am i the only one concerned that her office is under investigation and she & her hubby are in the pockets of Big Oil? She also wants to drill in ANWR, even if that would not only screw up the environment & produce nothing for 10 years.

OM said:

Yep, you're probably the only Democrat here...

Ryan Trabuco said:

That so-called investigation is simply a state legislative review of her decision to dismiss her Public Safety Commissioner, whom she felt wasn't doing the job that they were appointed to do.

As far as being in the pockets of big oil, Palin couldn't be more anti-big oil. Obama has taken more money from big oil interests than Sarah Palin.

On ANWR, you need to do some serious research on that subject because your claim and basis of information is completely untrue.

Gov. Palin has been an exceptional leader of Alaska -- 80% of her state's voters have a high approval of her -- and America will fall in love with her as well. McCain picked a true winner. In fact, knowing McCain's background of service as an elected official, he's actually picked someone who reminds him of himself. Palin is the younger version of John McCain.

She will fight corruption. She will fight for reform. And if -- under any circumstances -- should she succeed to become our next President, she will serve with the dignity, the respect, and the conviction that she's shown as Governor of Alaska.

What a brilliant choice. I have researched Palin, including accounts of her gubernatorial race, and I am convinced that she will make mincemeat out of Joe Biden, and that within 30 days she will out-Rock-Star Obama.

HELLLO. She went up against BIG OIL and made her point.

Her stamina will only make her better as she goes along.

She is a wonderfull breath of fresh air that I dont want to stop

breathing....

I am sorry. I would not let someone drive my car if I only had one encounter with them. McCain has one meeting with Palin and now she is on the ticket. Talk about poor judgment. That decision was about politics and not governing. At least Mitt is still young.

RGWT sighting!!!!!

She's done some good things, like taking on big oil, She replaced a corrupt Governor. However, McCain has blasted Obama as too young and inexperienced to be President, then he nominates someone younger and less experienced to be one heartbeat away from the Presidency. The choice seems politically expedient.

Congratulations Jessica on the call! I have to admit McCain's choice for VP has changed my mind about voting third party. Now, will someone do something about the local Republicans to make me want to vote for them this November also?

Steve C said:

Amen Sharon Gilbert! The Presidential race is heading in the right direction, now we need to concentrate on local races/issues, such as the BOS fiasco and the Colton City council mess.

Time for the RINO's like Mitchell and Yzigurre to go. Its way past time for REAL CONSERVATIVES to step in and clean up the mess that is holding the city back.

Alaska governor Sarah Palin has some good qualities, but she is not without political baggage. Palin is under investigation by the Alaska State Legislature, which has hired an outside investigator. This is because she removed her State Trooper Commissioner for refusing to fire her ex-Brother-in-Law. This is a complex issue, but Palin's statements on whether she exerted pressure to get the trooper removed have shifted as "Troopergate" has become an issue.

Anonymous said:

PS: Ryan Trabucco's version of this incident is not consistent with the public record. For those in doubt, look up "Troopergate" on Wikapedia.

CCOANGEL, here's a tip for you: make sense! You kind of sound like the president - misusing cliches. I think what you meant was "born with a silver spoon in your mouth" not your hand. You really lack credibility if you make statements like that. Gave me some pretty good laughs though!
In any event, my point is that it is asinine for you to state that Sarah Palin is a "real woman" while the democrats you mentioned are apparently not in your eyes. I guess only women who shoot and kill animals and don't believe in a little thing I like to call "science" are real women as far as you are concerned. Now, I am not a dumb-o-crat; I'm actually a VERY PROUD member of the Green Party and will always remain so; however, I think it's ridiculous for you to imply that a woman like Hillary Clinton, who had a real job prior to her becoming a politician (she is an attorney, in case you didn't know) is somehow "not good enough" to lead this county. You obviously don't agree with the views of democrats, but you do a disservice to all women by not having respect for intelligent career women on BOTH sides of the political fence. I absolutely don't agree with Sarah Palin's views, but I don't bash her because she is clearly an intelligent, articulate woman whether or not I happen to agree with her politics. I do have to say that her environmental policy is frightening and is proof that she doesn't believe in or respect science, but, as I mentioned, that's no reason for me to call her a "whiner" or other derogatory things like CCOANGEL says about democratic women. It seems to me that only those who are not smart enough to argue about the issues would resort to personal attacks like that. Get some education on the actual issues, and then try posting a comment that makes sense!

Peter Wyzinski said:

"...socially apt is not among them."

What's interesting is that he's so "socially apt," that he actually managed to become part of the Central Committee in a county 3 months after moving in to it.

http://www.sandiegorepublicans.org/about/central_committee/

You can call him socially apt all you want, but he probably lets on a lot less than people think.

Jefferson said:

If Palin and McCain are so great, can anyone tell me 2 things that they've said they're going to do??? The only things I've heard so far are that conservatives are good and community organizers are bad.

At least with Obama we've heard some things (95% tax cut, universal health care, pulling troops out of Iraq).

In my opinion, his choice was great! Although it didn't help his campaign very much, Sarah palin is an amazing and inspirational woman.
