Bill Postmus Legal Defense Fund Against "Mean" Democrats

Posted by: Slotur | 08/05/2008 9:01 PM

Bill Postmus is feeling the heat. This email an appeal for his Legal Defense Fund. My favorite part is the part that says; "This whole situation smacks of an underhanded effort by mean Democrats to destroy a tax-fighting fiscal conservative." That  sure is a lot of smack alright.

Here is the appeal:

A good friend of ours has recently been under unfair and unreasonable scrutiny. The Honorable Bill Postmus, the elected assessor for San Bernardino County, has always done great things for the people he represents.

You may have read that the San Bernardino County Grand Jury recently issued Assessor Postmus' office a "clean bill of health." That statement is absolutely true! Never has the Office of County Assessor been stronger, more efficient, or more productive than under Bill Postmus' leadership.

However, five weeks ago a great man was arrested, and is now being prosecuted under bogus charges. Clearly, Bill Postmus is the victim of an unfair investigation and prosecution by an overzealous district attorney. This whole situation smacks of an underhanded effort by mean Democrats to destroy a tax-fighting fiscal conservative.

With the statements made by the district attorney last week that the investigation is "ongoing," we supporters of Bill Postmus are growing concerned that he may soon be the victim of a politically-motivated witch hunt indictment. Simply put, we want to ensure that Bill is ready to fight any charges that may be brought against him.

What we are attempting to do is collect the necessary resources to fund a strong and powerful legal defense of Bill Postmus. But we do not want to wait until after indictments are handed down. We want to collect these funds preemptively. We want Bill to come out swinging the very moment any charges are filed. We want the district attorney to think to himself with concern, and wonder if he can truly win a victory in court that would go against the desires of the people of San Bernardino County.

But we need your help to accomplish this worthy goal.

Will you please consider making a generous contribution of $1,000, $500, or even as little as $100 to the Bill Postmus Legal Defense Fund, once it is established? Bill has been there for us when we needed him most. Now, it is time for us to be there for him.
Simply reply to this message with the amount you are prepared to contribute, and a representative will contact you. Do not submit any personal financial information directly to this email address. Remember, there are no limits for contributions to legal defense funds.

I know Bill will be appreciative of your support.

Sincerely,

Jane Baldwin
Bill Postmus Legal Defense Fund

This would be a funny post had SBPEA not just given Bill Postmus $4000 for his warchest. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

Retired said:

I think SBPEA just gave this crook $4,000 for his legal defense fund, under the guise of "Bill Postmus Election Fund". Postmus isn't going to be elected anything for quite some time, except maybe cellblock monitor. Was this appeal tounge-in-cheek, or meant to be serious? If the latter, I think Ms. Baldwin must be off the deep end something terrible.

I just can't resist a little more. Bill Postmus a "Tax-fighting fiscal conservative"? $1.8 million taxpayer dollars to create and maintain new crony positions in the Assessor's Office. "Clean bill of health" by the Grand Jury? How could anybody reading their report interpret it that way. Come on, this was a joke! Right?

Unless the voters of this county wake up, you KNOW they'll vote these guys in again. How many years have we dealt with corruption? 10? 15? 20? Everyone sees the problem and people do nothing. Asleep at the wheel.........

108 million to the colonies partners, I would of rather had 250 thousand paid to williamson's sexual harassment victims.

That email has been revealed to be a hoax. You guys of all people should know it. So I ask rhetorically, why is it still posted?

And BTW, until you do away with anonymous posts, you're not going to be a credible news site or blog. I know the difference, and you should too. This hurts our party's credibility.

Retired said:

Brad: I'm one of your constituents, and since you're on the line, how about answering a couple questions. As Bill Postmus' Chief of Staff while he was County Supervisor and apparently in drug rehab, did you know of his addiction? Did you notify the appropriate authorities, or cover it up? And, was Bill Postmus operating county vehicles and carrying a concealed weapon while high on meth, not to mention running the County.

Retired said:

I'm very concerned about our Party's "Credibility" also, for different reasons.

Sharon said:

Brad, don't you think we all know it is a hoax? It was meant as a joke. I think it was pretty funny. And for those who didn't get it . . . oh well!

Sharon said:

Retired, don't expect a response. If you are not a campaign contributor, he will not talk to you. I know from personal experience.

Sharon: I'm well aware of Brad Mitzelfelt's disparate representation, and don't expect any response to my questions here, or if I contact him in person. My intent was to show how disingenious his criticism of Red County is for allowing anonymous comments, which in his view lower the "Credibility" of the site. I don't think this is the case at all; they support open discussion. I don't think Brad should be speaking about others' "Credibility" when he seems to be hiding a lot of information, which the public has a right to know, about his former mentor and close friend Bill Postmus.

Sharon said:

Oh I know. I just crack up at these people that complain about the anonymity of blogs. Wasn't it Bill that complained about mine after I wrote about his drug abuse a couple months ago? Maybe we aren't perfect, but at least we don't sit in an ivory tower only communicating with a bunch of "yes men" who feed our egos. Nor do we try to hide the truth. We may have a hard time finding the truth sometimes because they are so good at hiding it, but we don't hide it.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Sorry I have been gone otherwise I would have edited this post and included the fact that it is indeed a "hoax"... which I think most people knew.

Brad, thanks for your comment and hopefully Slotur will heed your advice in future posts.

Brad, I strongly and respectfully disagree with your contention, and I speak from direct experience. OC Blog was was staffed by a pseudonymous blogpen for almost the first two years of its existence, during which time it grew tremendously into a credible news source.

It's the quality of the information provided and the arguments made, not the the identity of the blogger, that determine a blog's credibility. I'm not comparing Red County to the Federalists Papers, but were those documents less credible because John Jay, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton used fake names?
