It must be asked, "Is Supervisor Paul Biane politically inane?" Why else would he proposed something as patently hair-brained as a charter amendment to require a 4/5 vote of the Board of Supervisors to approve any staff hire by a Supervisor?

If Supervisor Biane thinks his colleagues are incapable of making such a basic decision without the agreement of three colleagues, why not just say so? Will he raise his hand at the next Board meeting and ask for a 4/5 vote permitting him to go to the bathroom?

And has it occurred to Biane that by advancing such policy stupidity he is indicting himself as not competent to staff his own office? If that is the case, perhaps he ought to tender his resignation so the people of San Bernardino County can elect a Supervisor confident in his or her ability to make their own staff hiring decisions.

I've heard of using a hammer to swat a fly, but Supervisor Biane has traded in the proverbial hammer for a piledriver. This county needs leadership, Supervisor, not paralysis.

Some free advice to Biane... withdraw this amendment and pretend it never happened, or blame it on too much coffee.
