Assistant Assessor Adam Aleman just announced he is resigning his post.
The resignation comes hours after Paul Biane, the chairman of the county Board of Supervisors, called for Aleman's termination.
Aleman, 25, was being paid a $119,000 salary even after being placed on administrative leave in mid-April.
He has been charged with six felonies for destroying evidence and altering documents requested by the grand jury, which was investigating the Assessor's Office.
The resgination is effective Friday.
"It is with tremendous sadness that I accept your letter of resignation," Postmus wrote to Adam Aleman after receiving correspondence from Aleman. "For over three years, you have been an invaluable key member of my staff. I thank you for all you have accomplished for the people of San Bernardino County.
"I would like to thank you for your hard work in improving the Office of County Assessor, Postmus continued. "Your accomplishments are second to none in implementing technological advancements, increasing public awareness of taxpayer exemptions, and managing and guiding a staff of professionals. You have always exceeded expectations in your work for San Bernardino County. For that, I will remain grateful." Adam Aleman has been the assistant assessor for support since January 2007.
Assistant Assessor for Operations Harlow Cameron, a 35-year employee of the San Bernardino County Assessor's Office, will temporarily assume Aleman's duties (SB SUN).
