BREAKING NEWS:
Fred Wilson has decided to take his track record of fiscal mismanagement, propensity to cover up misconduct by subordinates and outright lies to Huntington Beach. The story has broken over at the San Bernardino Sun blog SB Now by ace reporter Robert Rogers.
For the casual observers of San Bernardino politics and for any Orange County lurkers, you should probably know the following about Fred Wilson's track record:
1. He was a veritable lifer in San Bernardino with over 20 years of service. Imagine if the City of San Bernardino were a publicly traded stock. It would look like IndyMac, just not as precipitous with the drop.
2. Due to his fiscal mismanagement as City Manager and City Administrator, San Bernardino faces a budget deficit of nearly $20 million. Mind you, our annual budget is around $150 million.
3. Wal-Mart and other large businesses and countless small businesses were failing to collect the proper sales tax percentage on purchases.
4. According to Mayor Morris and subordinates, City Manager Fred Wilson kept a laundry list of misconduct, including allegations of sexual molestation from the mayor.
5. He lied to the District Attorney in an investigation as to whether or not the law was broken regarding mandated reporting requirements involving this alleged molestation.
And these are just the highlights.
According to a press release put out by Mayor Pat Morris, wishing Fred well in his future endeavors, the matter of hiring Fred Wilson will be voted on by Huntington Beach city council on August 4th.
If you have any doubts as to why San Bernardino is in the sad shape it is in, perhaps, you should read the glowing endorsement of Fred Wilson given by the mayor. Considering that Fred Wilson shielded the mayor from important revelations that will probably destroy his signature program, Operation Phoenix, and ran this city into the ground fiscally speaking, is it any wonder?
