Derry Has No Political (or Grassroots) Support
Posted by: Mentok | 06/02/2008 2:52 PM
Recent campaign disclosure reports had an interesting fact regarding the Third District Supervisorial race: Almost 90% of Derry's campaign funds are from two sources: SEBA and the County Public Attorney's Association. Almost 90%!
It is also interesting to note that Derry has only been endorsed, according to his website, by four local elected officials. Three of whom are his co-workers on the City Council... Hansberger has been endorsed by almost every public official within his district- including District Attorney Mike Ramos, Sheriff Gary Penrod, Congressman Jerry Lewis, Assemblyman Emmerson, Assemblyman Cook, Assemblyman Adams, Chairman of the Board Supervisor Paul Biane, Supervisor Gonzalez, and Supervisor Gary Ovitt- to name a few.
Even more interesting to note is the grassroots efforts behind Hansberger's campaign. It has been confirmed through various reputable sources within the district that there are no Derry signs in people's yards. However, Hansberger's yard signs are plastered all over neighborhoods. That alone speaks volumes of the lack of support from constituents for Derry. It is clear from not only Hansberger's political support- but grassroots support- that he is very well respected in the area. Tomorrow night's elections results will prove just that.
Here's a list of Hansberger's endorsements (www.joindennis.com):

In all seriousness, in today's political climate (especially amongst Republicans), I am not exactly sure that having the endorsements of the "establishment" is an asset.
I think at the end of the day, a candidate would rather have the endorsements of various local electeds, than not. However, I am just not all the convinced that those endorsements in and of themselves are all that valuable.
I am looking forward to the results because I think there are two clearly distinct choices for the voters. I know that when I go to the ballot booth, I want a real choice between candidates.
In that vein, I received a letter this weekend from Bill Postmus in support of Mitzelfelt. I really question the wisdom of that decision.
The list you so prominently highlight is precisely why Hansberger is losing.
In case you can't figure it out. People don't want more of the same....
Kind of looks like the "Dead Sea Scrolls"!!b
A story was done by the Sun back in 2004 showing the link of Hansberger and all of the surrounding elected officials beholding to him for his assistance in getting them elected. Nothing has changed, they are still beholding to him and were afraid of the repercussions if by the slim chance he were to be re-elected. 50 or so elected politicans don't make up for the thousands of county employees who are tired of his lack of respect for them.
Seems like about half of these politicians are under investigation. Top notch group. Someone should vet these lists before posting.
Hmmmm.... right wing conspiracy theorists are the reasons why the GOP is faultering.
Some people have no idea what they are talking about. I am a Reagan Republican and have no issue with republicans criticizing other republicans. However; have proof and evidence to back up your claims.
The only reason such aforementioned comments are made is due to bitterness because of lack of power and influence.
Looks like a list of the dirty tricks crowd from across the county. You lay with pigs you get dirty. Time is short Dennis and your henchman.
